Popular Post StogieSteve23 Posted July 19, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 19, 2020 Opening Remarks: Purchased a 24:24 ¼ box in late May and figured I’d try one for the review. 1 stick out of the bunch had with some white mold growing around on the head and final third of the cigar, but nothing near the foot. I grabbed that one to get it out of the bunch. Gave it a quick wipe down and it was perfect. It turned out be a perfect day after having rained all morning which made it all the better. Cold Draw: A near perfect draw. Nowhere near overpacked seeming but not a wind tunnel either. Cold draws yielded large notes of chocolate covered raisins with honey and an underlying fresh hay First Third: After the initial light up I get large golden raisins, honey and milk chocolatey notes. The raisins dissipate after a few puffs and for a few puffs, an underlying note of coconut step in. Vanilla pepperming on the retrohale and a soft breadyness similar to sponge cake. The draw had closed up a little than it was when it was cold, but worked itself out again. The ash held firm but needed a touch-up. I was also talking too much and let it go out by accident just before the 2/3. Post relight there’s some butter cream sweetness. Second Third: Moving into the second thirs theres shortbread and honey comes back. A vanilla cookies type note comes in. One I can only describe as “Nilla Wafers” cookies. After another relight toward the end of this third, predominant milk chocolate, fudge like notes are present. Combustion and draw are great, but again it was my talking that allowed it to go out. Final Third: The final third starts out with more milk chocolate but this time a stale hazelnut sweetness comes in. The retro now has more bready notes to it, similar to a fresh baked baguette. Quite enjoyable. A little mint comes back in for a few puffs before turning everything back into milk chocolate at the end. Closing Remarks: Pleasant smoke all around. Very enjoyable with nice sweet flavors. Despite the couple of relights, flavors remained great all the way through. I would have loved another one right after it. Like the Monte Especiales No. 2, I love the size of this cigar. Burn: 3/5 (A little wonky at times but overall decent) Construction: 4/5 (Great feel and draw) Flavor: 5/5 (Excellent – Milk chocolate, baked goods, honey & vanilla. Wanted more.) Smell: 5/5 (Delicious – Clean burning cedar smoke) Wrapper: 5/5 (Smooth but textured like with no large veins– nice sheen with a slight toothiness) Overall Score: 22/25 14
