I've seen these Lanceros Diplo boxes at El Laguito with personalized bands for the King of Spain.

They come in that same white box and bear ONLY the personalized band ( I've also seen fakes bearing both the Cohiba band and the King of Spain band ).

El Laguito 1 and 2 I have had these cigars in.  Are there other sizes too?

The box was not full - it had 3 or 4 missing when it fell into my hands. I gave a couple away before my visit to the cigar shop, including one to a childhood friend my have used the wrapper to smoke something other than tobacco. I sent him a text late last night to not smoke it if he still had it ... I haven’t heard back yet.

The friend who I got the box from couldn’t give me any details on how the boxes were stored, but said his father did not have a humidor, nor was a smoker (that he knew of)

The Cigar Shop guys said they would let me know when they smoked the Cohibas - hopefully they are still smokeable.

This is honestly such a wonderful story! It reminds me a bit of how one of my friends unknowingly drank like $30k+ in old bourbon when their grandfather passed, they enjoyed it a lot (and were surprised to) but had no idea of it's worth until they told me the story and I almost fell out of my chair years later.

If you don't end up selling them I'm sure they will be a fun intro to the amazing world of cigars, and I'm sure plenty of folks on here would swap you other amazing things to be able to try one.

Must have been a wonderful blunt!  Hahaha, I mean... if the stick isn’t smokable anymore might as well salvage the wrapper!   What a story, makes me want to scope out some estate sales.

Honestly, they are fairly worthless being so old and without the Cohiba band. I can PM you my addy, if you would like to send 5 or so cigars and I can test and authenticate them for you. Free of. charge of course...

Lol, what a great find !!!

Something out of a Cheech and Chong movie. Cutting open a priceless cigar because they ran out of zig zags just to use the wrapper. ??‍♂️

I love this whole story, including the give ‘em away parts. Good for you all round! I am smoking a Cohiba Lancero right now, and l couldn’t be happier.

Interesting. So there's at least one example of similar in dress boxes. The King of Spain bands are much more elaborate. But out of cello, so post-82, but the King of Spain is a much bigger figure.

I would say a partial box without much provenance and unknown storage conditions would probably have brought around $1000-$1500 at auction. Unique but not a particularly well-known head of state.

Only a couple more years of dry boxing, and they might be almost ready for @PigFish to smoke.

I have had some success with re-humidifying ancient relics like this (and a lot older, pre-embargo cigars), to varying degrees.  Sometimes they come out tasting half way decent, and other times it is like smoking cardboard.  In my experience, best to do it slowly, as the wrappers tend to be really frail when they are this dry and this old.  But honestly, if I had a question about anything having to do with humidity, the guy I tagged above would be the first person I would ask.
