Popular Post Silverstix Posted June 2, 2020 Popular Post Posted June 2, 2020 I wanted to show some love for the UEB factory code. This is a code that I have seen produce consistently great cigars among a number of marcas - Partagas, Montecristo, HDM & Upmann. This Mag 50 was brought out for a couple of reasons....first off, because of the recent discussion in the forum about good box codes for this cigar, and also because of the review weekend. My 2nd from a box of 10, this cigar is HEAVY. It feels about 30% heavier than it should be. Solid as a rock, this thing is a cannon. A smooth wrapper. The weight and the stuffed foot of the cigar have me worried about being plugged, however after cutting it the draw is nice with a touch of resistance. Right off the bat.....whoa!!!!! Ok, I’m gonna be in for a treat. It’s one of those cigars you can tell is going to be special within the first couple of draws. It’s medium bodied. A very lush smoke, giving me my first distinct experience with a “fruit” flavor profile. It’s all fruit. Smooth but heavy smoke, effortless to retrohale. Due to this cigar being overstuffed, a crack appeared in the first 1” of the cigar. However, to my surprise and pleasure, the burn line just smoked right through it. Did I mention this cigar feels like a brick? Solid, as evidenced by the ash. The strong fruit notes are still dominating as I finish up the 1/3. This is really an amazing smoke early on. I find myself grinning. Working into the 2/3 and this is becoming a medium-full bodied cigar. Fruit is turning into a malty sour tanginess with some leather and almost gingerbread type of zing on the finish. It’s also giving me a bit of a nicotine kick which is something I rarely get. I had the same experience with my first from this box. At this point I’m beginning to really feel how much tobacco is stuffed into this cigar. It’s slowing me down a bit!!! This cigar is starting to feel very “raw” as I get into the last third. It is now definitely medium-full both in body and in strength. It’s a very rich smoke. I’m getting a very strong natural tobacco flavor dominating things. It reminds me of when I used to chew tobacco, it’s turning unpleasant. Construction wise - this cigar performed like a champ though. Total smoke time - 1:50 mins Overall: 89/90* * This was on track to be a 94 point cigar in the 1/2. The 2/2 just become too raw for me to enjoy. I think a cigar like this will age incredibly well and be every bit of 95 points. You can tell this is a very rich tobacco with a very solid backbone.
