benfica_77 Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 As the title states what's your strategy to removing the health warning labels from cigar boxes? Do you use different techniques for dress boxes vs SLBs? Have a box of Monte 4s arriving shortly with health warnings from spain and would love to remove them. Is a blow dryer the best approach???
Popular Post Markspring1978 Posted May 28, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 28, 2020 A couple thoughts. First, it goes without saying, take the cigars out and keep in your humidor while removing. Hair dryer works okay, older boxes not as well. With older boxes I peel off the top layer of paper which leaves the sticky residue covered with the raw paper. I then spread a thin layer of peanut butter on this and leave for a few hours. This will then wipe off with minimal elbow grease. Removing the glossy/top layer of paper will allow the oils in the PB to penetrate and get it off in no time. After doing this, you will really enhance the peanut flavors in your smoking experience. ? 1 4

I believe you i remember as a kid using peanut butter to clean old coins, among other things like lemon juice. I will try it and keep you posted with the results. Thanks for the idea!

Subcomandante Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 Depending on the age of the box/stickers and how “good” they were put on, I was able to peel off the labels pretty good with no blow dryer on a box I got in Mexico. I was semi careful. I didn’t bother being careful too much and it came out pretty good. Just wanted the awful mouth cancer photos pasted all over the box gone.

FatherOfPugs Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 I have a heat gun that has a low setting, works pretty well.

For dress boxes - good f@cking luck THIS...also, isopropyl alcohol will dissolve much of the foul glue residue after you've used the hairdryer method to remove the sticker. Apply to a paper or Terry cloth towel, just be careful NOT to get alcohol on the stamped factory code and box date. It will take them both off in a matter of seconds. Wait a few minutes to allow the alcohol to evaporate from the box (it won't leave any residue or odor). Check out this box of Edmundo Dantes Conde Belicoso before & after using this method...not 100%, but certainly an improvement over what it was previously! Just be very careful if you wish to preserve the warranty seal, and go EXTRA slow peeling the health warning sticker in spots where it overlaps the warranty seal. 6
La_Tigre Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 I had(ve) one on the old Lancero box I use as a dry box that lifted the entire Cohiba off the box. I admit it unnerves me but oh well....
Chas.Alpha Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 Color me Ig’nant! When I read “health labels”, I was thinking “why do you care, just leave them on...” I ain’t ever seen THAT sh*t! ? 1

I can only imagine the staff meetings where a board expresses their fear of a group of 17 year olds standing outside a Tobacco shop trying to get people to buy them the new La Flor de Cano Spanish Regionals ??♂️?
Cairo Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 I have some boxes from "gray" dealers with a variety of different European language warnings (that I can't translate) on them...rather amusing, actually.

I saw @pandyboy used lighter fluid to remove warning stickers on CC boxes, but never saw an iron for removing these annoying stickers. Do I have to empty the CC box if I use an iron and lighter fluid to remove obnoxious warning stickers? Glad that CCs from our host don't have these health warning stickers! ? 1
Ken Gargett Posted May 31, 2020 Posted May 31, 2020 when they started, hated them. now, i don't even notice them. it would never occur to me to bother spending time trying to get one off. 1
benfica_77 Posted June 5, 2020 Author Posted June 5, 2020 So I used my wife's blow dryer and systematically worked from one edge to another. There was a sticky residue left so I did use Isopropyl with a towel and just rubbed it on the sticky parts. Check if its still sticky after it dries out and then re-apply more isopropyl if need be. here's the before and after photos. Cheers!

MasterYotti Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Out of curiosity, what countries still apply labels like this to Cuban cigars?
Kitchen Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Well, this is taken more seriously than I would have thought!
