Yellot00tr Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 Someone buy them and send rob some. I’m not a Partagas fan. But those 1978 du roi look like delightful

bdw1984 Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 Have at it boys... @El Presidente @Ken Gargett @JohnS @Chucko8 The box was too pretty, I couldn't bring myself to crack it. Hoping it finds a new home where it will be lit on fire, promptly. 2

It might have been a SdC #2 actually, I don't recall now. While the cigars were very different, from a strict 'enjoyment' perspective, judging only the smoking experience and how much I enjoyed the cigars, I honestly cannot say that the SdC #2 was a better a cigar. This is quite a complement coming from me, a guy that debatably dislikes non-Cuban cigars. The N-1 was more robust and a more interesting cigar. SdC was more subtle, and nuanced. I enjoyed both cigars. To be wholly honest, I would have to say that the N-1 would have received a higher rating from me in a blind review. I would have to say it was a better cigar! Caveat... This was a back to back (day apart as I recall) review with only two cigars. I cannot claim that it was an 'end all' judgment about the two cigars as a whole. It was just two of a lifelong experience with many, many cigars. Take it for what it is worth. The N-1 is a worthy cigar. It possesses a fine reputation with me, as does the SdC line. Cheers! -Ray 10 1

A bit like when a sports fans want to hypothesize who will win between boxers of different generations. The factor of failure is always the untrustworthy sweetness of memory. I.e these two cigars will always be out of sync, they can only be judged (as you have done) ie.... How do they perform on the day. 3

My 2020 samples are on their way to me now and I believe them to be a step up again. I will make sure to include you in the tasting panel. 2

It is pretty clear how I feel about cigars!!! -LOL I have no shortage of opinions. Likely 1000 of my 7K posts have some reference back to the 'smoking experience.' I am not a collector, aging expert, expert smoker.... or golden tongue guru. I am a regular dude that has a taste for good cigars. Depending the time and cigar, boorish, brash, boring or bewildering can certainly be applied to my tastes. The point in all this was not a 'shill' plug for my friend Rob's cigars. While I love Rob, I am rather forthright about my opinions regarding this subjective topic. I call'm as I see'm... My post is about my cigars, not about a box that someone is trying to sell, Rob's or otherwise! I discuss my tastes and my values. I have offered such advice, wholly anecdotal, on this site from the beginning of it. This was also not intended to subvert anyones auction. Frankly if I posted a pic of a box of cigars, and someone said, 'hey dude, I have got the skinny on a great cigar for you to try,' as I bemoan the loss of a particular cigar, well, that is what a cigar forum is about. Lastly... I have posted many times here, that I have no particular love for Cuba. It is the place that makes the cigars that I am fond of. This is nothing against Cuba, or Cubans, but I don't love Ethiopians for their coffee either! I prefer the individual approach. I don't know a country full of people, including my own. I have bemoaned the loss of discontinued cigars from Cuba for about 15 years now (as I recon). Prior to that, I was still working thought the catalog coming to understand my tastes and biases. Since then, I have commented on many posts with something like this: Just make me a good thin ring cigar. I don't care what country it comes from. I want it tasty, and a good value. I don't give a damn where it comes from. I don't care about the box. I don't want any bands, tie it with a ribbon and wrap it in cello and sell it to me for a fair price!!! Well... WTF... someone listed to my advice. These came in the mail yesterday! Find the quote... I have typed it in one form or another at least a dozen times on this forum. Likely more! Someone in the cigar world actually listens and responds to the seasoned smoker. The 'taste' smoker. The value smoker... Ray, the smoker! If you want a box of SdC on BR then pony up! If the 1 box on there today does not satisfy the demand, and you want a damn good cigar to smoke while you wait for the next holy grail to appear, well, get a bundle of these from Rob. Mine are not for sale! Cheers! -Ray 5
