Wookie Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 They contain virtually the same weight of leaves mathematically. I think about 2% difference. I haven't yet scored any Esmeralda. Topes last anywhere from 1-2 hours depending on how slowly I savor them. Anyone have experience with both and their associated smoke times?
NSXCIGAR Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 Smoking time is much more dependent on length than RG. I have had an Esmeralda. I'm a slow smoker anyway, but it's a fairly large cigar. It certainly lasted 2+ hrs for me. Topes, less than 2. 4
Popular Post JohnS Posted May 14, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 14, 2020 Yes, they are close. There seems to be a point of conjecture on the ring gauge of the Esmeralda. The confusion stems from the initial run being announced to distributors as 53 ring gauge, later this has been updated to 54 ring gauge. Hence, why on-line vendors have different measurements for the Esmeralda! (If you list it at 53 the difference is around 2-3% more for the Esmeralda, if it's 54 ring gauge than the difference is up to 8%) @ATGroom has the Esmeralda listed as 54 ring gauge on Cuban Cigar Website, and knowing Alex as I do, this would have been done on the reference of multiple sources. In regards to time to smoke, for me personally, a 50 ring gauge x 124 mm (4⅞ inches) Partagas Serie D No.4 takes around 70 to 75 minutes to smoke. A 56 ring gauge x 125 mm (approx. 4⅞ inches) takes me around 90 to 95 minutes to smoke. A 54 ring gauge x 145 mm (5¾ inches) Trinidad Esmeralda takes me around 100 to 105 minutes to smoke. 6

Don't remember how I arrived at 54 on this one, but can't find an official Habanos press release that mentions it which would normally be the "source of truth." Looking at the first page Google search results you get three pages with 53 and four with 54, so I may have gone with 54 "on balance." 3

I saw both 53 and 54 ring on several sites. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Eric05 Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 I think Trinidad, with this lineup have changed my outlook on them. Yes the La trova is a great stick. But the esmeralda and topes are perfect ring gauge and size cigars. 1
