Popular Post dominattorney Posted May 12, 2020 Popular Post Posted May 12, 2020 round two. And I am such a fat little piggy that we were halfway through dinner before I remembered to snap a photo. Chicken breast, seared and then baked in spinach, mushrooms, cream and parmesan with a hint of white wine. This was some good stuff. Very tender. Also, not exactly diet food but it is what it is. Quarantine has not been gentle with our waistlines. And after dinner, no reason to let up on the abuse. This picture came out like I took it after seven or eight of these, though I assure you that is not the case. Had a nice dinner with my wife's daughter and her boyfriend, then grabbed an upmann mag 46 and headed out back. Don't mind the fancy footwear. I am as extravagant as I am elegant. And if it weren't for always posting these reviews on my phone, eloquent. No surprises with this cigar for those who are familiar. Just classic mag 46 flavors with the mongrel aged out by 6 years of rest. Bread and earth dominate the fore. But I make the almost fatal error of pairing it with the Amaro on the right rather than the tried and true fernet. For the life of me why did I do this? I also can't recall the name and the photo is so blurry I can't make it out. I am going to have to take classes from @Ken Gargett on proper cigar and alcohol review etiquette. In any event, it has cinnamon, clove, and cardamom, though the clove is what nearly wrecked the pairing as it numbed my tongue and muted the flavors for 20 or so minutes. Luckily the cigar performed like a champion and the tastebuds were rejuvenated for the second third. The amaro has potential, but it does not go with a cigar. Reminiscent of chai tea, may be an excellent addition to a black Russian or some such ilk. Note to self to try it again with a blended scotch, coffee liquor, and a splash of milk over ice with mole bitters. Possibly mezcal as well? No reason to play it safe all quarantine long. BUT I digress,, as I am wont to do...Burn is still awesome but the brisk wind blows the ash off prematurely. Flavors continue as bread, earth, and baking spice (go figure after the amaro) predominate over lightly toasted tobacco. The fernet allows the flavors of the cigar to shine through much better. cigar goes out with a bang in a symphony of baking spices and twang. Nub this one and head inside to watch one of the step daughters famously sappy movie choices. 9 of 10 7
