Boveda Humidor

What do you guys think about this humidor by Boveda?  I have been using Xikar travel, Boveda bags and 65% packs as my humidors with great success for years.  Now I am looking to invest either a conventional wood humidor or a boveda acrylic humidor.

I love the enthusiasm and your desire to set the site record for most posts in your first week. Check out some of the prior posts on the site. They can be very instructive. There are some extremely knowledgeable members, particularly on the subject of humidity and humidors.This particular one is great for humidor setups. In general, the rule of thumb is go bigger than you think you need because it will fill up fast. I have an old broken wine fridge and several air/watertight 80 qt plastic containers. 75 cigar boveda will probably take care of what you buy in the first two weeks of discovering 24:24.

Get a real humidor.

Get neither. Don’t waste your money on a real humidor. They aren’t worth 2 cents.

 

get one of these and you’ll have to change refresh your Boveda or beads once very couple of years. I use two of the biggest size and use SensorPush sensors. I haven’t refreshed my beads or Boveda packs in a couple years.

I have a good regular humidor I’ve had for 30 years for NCs and id never buy one or suggest one to someone again.

Good advice above.  Whatever you do go bigger than you think you will need.  I heard that advice many times and didn't think it would apply to me.

I'd go with tupperdor and save coins for 150qt coolidor, as Boveda Acrylic Humidors are literally same as tupperdors with just being more pricey.

Made that mistake.  Don't do it.  My collection outgrew the boveda before it had arrived.

Iris 46 qt weatherproof with a couple boveda 62s. Start stacking them. They work like a champ in my basement.

I would stick with Boveda bags and tupperdor and save money to buy more cigars.

From the responses I would stick with boveda bags instead of investing a new humidor for now.

I use something like this with a large (350gram?) 65% Boveda packet. I have several, just started filling a new one.

We start asking about a desktop 75 count acrylic thing.  

Then y'all start recommending storage containers for boxes.

If you want a desktop to smoke from, get a real humidor.  If you want store, go coolerdor or tupperdor.  

If you want store and smoke, do both.  Like I do.  And I'm effing awesome.  So I'd do what I do myself, as I often do.

@SenorPerfecto, @rcarlson - technically, tupperdors and ziplocs are functionally just fine.  Your points are taken.  But there’s an aesthetic element for many as well.  A beautiful desktop humidor can offer a lot of enjoyment for the owner, even though a plastic bag would work.  Kind of like having a Mercedes or a bus pass. Both will do the same, but one is a lot nicer.  No?  ?

I think the Boveda humidor is too small for the money. If you are looking for a desktop unit I think for about the same coin I would get a 150-250 count wooden humidor. I think the advice from @mtd057 is definitely great here, whatever size you think you need, you should probably go bigger. This is the route I would go. I just prefer the look of a wooden desktop over other methods of storage. 

I know plenty of folks that buy a setup that includes a container similar to the ones mentioned by @fitzy and @Str8BlkCoffee , combine it with cedar trays from Amazon, and throw in a Boveda packet for humidification. That way the cigars are still kept humidified in cedar but you can get to a much larger storage capacity for a LOT less money.

Yup I keep cedar trays in one box for the loose cigars the rest are kept in the boxes, plus I reuse some boxes for lose cigars too. Also the cedar sheets from boxes all go in the bottom of my boxes as well.

Well technical from my experience desktop humidors even the nice expensive ones are no where near as efficient at maintaining humidity.
