QDO Coronas Claro - ULA MAR-14

Opening Remarks:   I love this cigar. A nice vitola, perfect for the morning.  The wrapper on this stick is a beautiful golden color and has as nice velvety feel despite a couple rough large veins.

Cold draw yields perfect resistance and a combination of white grapes and honey.

First Third: After toasting the foot, combustion is very nice and the burn is flawless. Heavy cream, heavy chocolate, creamy cocoa. A beautiful chewy silky smoke fills the mouth.  I get notes of my aunts soda bread.  Faint baked goods, slight salt. The smoke however smells a little “feety” as my fiancé would say.  Not the most pleasant but it mellows out before the 2/3.  

 

Second Third: Draw, combustion, burn still perfect.  Creamy caramel, chocolate. Buttered toast, with a little more chocolate. Burn still impeccable.  

 

Final Third:  Had to relight because I was babying it while on a conference call.  Toast with butter, roasted unsalted almonds. Nubbed it.  

 

Closing Remarks: Fantastic construction, minimal body but nice medium flavor.  Medium complexity. Nice chocolate throughout with some baked goods, buttered toast. Good morning cigar for sure.   

 

Burn: 5/5 (Perfect – relight needed because I let it go out while talking)

Construction: 5/5 (Perfect draw/combustion)

Flavor: 5/5 (Satisfying – chocolate, baked goods, toast)

Smell: 3/5 (Smelled a little “feety” in 1/3 then mellowed to a nice burning tobacco)

Wrapper: 3/5 (Golden/Velvety beautiful – large veins rough to the touch)

Overall Score: 21/25

With the advent of the Quai d'Orsay No.50 and No.54, a lot of us a missing this cigar right now. Thanks again for the review!

I am far more partial to these myself but enjoy the 54 as well.  The 50 I believe leaves some to be desired.
