Lamb Chettinad from an Indian place called Ekta in the fishtown section of Philadelphia.  Lamb prepared in a coconut milk based, mustard, black pepper curry.  I save some of the curry and beat it into my scrambled eggs the next morning.  Spectacular.

I was across the way from there years back. Had some excellent shrimp tacos.  Grilled Red Snapper too. :)

Cheaper substitute here would be Mud Crab. The meat is chunky and sweet.

sadly pretty much all decent fresh seafood, especially crustaceans are big money,   It's largely due to the UK being a Cod and Haddock obsessed nation.  It is getting better, largely thanks to hipsters. 

Hilariously, I saw a news item a couple of years ago, where I woman in a Chippy was stating she only like cod because if was "white, clean and not fishy",  they asked her "have you ever seen a cod?"  she said "what do you mean?"  as uttered the words they pulled a huge unfilleted cod out from behind the counter, and the lady bolted out the door screaming like she'd seen an alien...........sad times.

Kofta is not necessarily cooked over charcoal, depends on the regional version, as koftas are spread from the Indian subcontinent through to the Middle East and Mediterranean. Simply put, a kofta is a patty or ball of ground meat with herbs and spices (blended until made into a paste consistency). It can be cooked in a multitude of ways; fried, boiled, grilled, steamed, etc.

Technically speaking, Adana kebab is a kofta. Adana kebab is spicy and should always be cooked on a flat metal skewer over charcoal (anyone who cooks it over gas is a philistine). I've bought Greek style kofta skewers from Costco and cooked them over charcoal. Better than cooking in a frying pan or under a grill. And whilst they taste good, I prefer Adana kebabs, as you get a good chili hit. Serve it with some flat bread that has been patted onto the cooking meat to absorb the melting fats.

A good tzatziki compliments the meat... just don't say which country invented tzatziki, or you could start WW3.

My first big holiday in the 90's was to Isla Mujeres. Loved that place with the sunsets on the beach and I did my scuba course there. Great memories.

For take-away I love Jamaican Jerk Chicken but can be hard to get true flame grilled over the coals. I also love a good Japanese pork ramen. Enjoyed some great authentic styles in Japan. There is a few good ones in Melbourne City.

mud crabs are from heaven. but i am not sure they are that much cheaper. a couple of weeks ago, mud crabs were about $60/kg (had to buy in reasonable quantity for that price). that doesn't include delivery, cooking, restaurant mark-ups etc. plus a lot of that weight is in the shell and claws, to be discarded (or used as stock).

Full Mud Crab local $30 a Kilo. Has been like that for a year at least. Blunder Road Fish market.

there is a reason that place is called blunder road. 

the price i found may have been just meat so that might equate. i might have had the full thing incorrect. 

i can remember the old man catching them in the brizzy river. we also used to get them up in pumistone passage - remember one day hauling in the big crab pot and somehow a dozen and a half big fat bream had got in.

We had 700 ml pink snapper in a Cray pot once. Best fish ever. Probably due to not fighting for its life on a line.

westie, it is a good point. less stress. but then being dragged out of the water in a small cage and stabbed with a sharp knife is probably also stressful. and are net caught fish that much better than line caught?

I know .Fair point mate. This was one in God knows how many we have caught skull dragged to the surfaced. So happened it was far better than the rest to eat . Pot full of big Black bream. Priceless! I hope your back is better...no doubt the pain is from carrying Rob through all the zoom reviews. ?

westie, i will confess that i have been enjoying the zoom reviews. i don't get whipcrack bitching and whinging (in the nicest way, of course) about what can he drink and insisting on big tannic reds with the cigars. he has been very rude about it. 

sadly, the back is not better. hopefully in a day or two.

My parents lived there part time for over 20 years.  Fun place.

Everyone is choosing fancy meals. But for me it’s hard to beat a take out pizza from a local mom and pop shop. Basically 3-4 ingredients but when you find a shop that has a legit recipe that uses quality ingredients it’s hard to beat for me. Perhaps it’s a comfort food. Maybe it’s just because pizza is my favorite food. Maybe I have the underdeveloped palette of a 14 year old. Probably a mix of all of the above. As a matter of fact I think that’s what I’m ordering today.
