Popular Post Ken Gargett Posted April 27, 2020 Popular Post Posted April 27, 2020 Ramon Allones Estupendos Regional Release Asia Pacific (TEB OCT 07) – Archie Rose Signature Dry Gin - Yalumba ‘The Caley’ Cabernet Shiraz 2014 By Ken Gargett. I have long believed that south-east Queensland/northern NSW, for the period from mid-March to early September, has simply the best weather on the planet. Bar none. That horrible enervating, soul-soaking heat and humidity have gone. Day after day, nothing matches it. I reckon I have travelled enough to be able to make a reasonably unbiased judgement on this and if anyone doubts my impartiality, I will also concede that the rest of the year is possibly the worst weather on the planet. Hate it. For a short period of isolation, I have decamped to the little place by the coast for a few days. For the last two/three days, there has not been so much of an illusion of a hint of a whisper of the merest cloud at any time throughout the day. The sky is a radiant blue. The ocean is... continue to full article. 6
Colt45 Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Thanks for the read KG. Interesting re the cigar - it seems to be one of those that is hit or miss for members - for me a miss. The '06s (my box anyway) showed real flashes, but suffered from overly tight draws and fragile wrappers. The '07s (again, my box) had better construction, but were rather dull. I still have quite a few of those so will have to re-visit once I get some decent weather. I think you know my thoughts on the red wine pairing. One of my locals shows the 2012 Caley - for $400 - so I won't be trying it any time soon, but I am intrigued...

Deeg Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Ken, do you ever pair port with cigars? It's a union I find often works surprisingly well.

david9985 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Nice article. Re the metric v imperial cigar measurements, isn't the 47 ring gauge 47/64ths of an inch diameter?

Ken Gargett Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 Just now, JohnS said: Yes, but in this case I think the 47 that Ken is referring to is a port. john, correct, but i have also always assumed that 52 or 47 or whatever was the ring gauge in millimetres. had never heard that x/64ths before. one learns something every day. thanks. 1
