I’m sitting in the Sydney airport after 8 great days waiting to go to Melbourne and the Yarra valley.  It has been a nice trip so far and I have seen many great things.

However, one of which are not these birds I see all over the city.  Certainly one of the ugliest animals I have ever seen.  If I had to reduce the Grim Reaper down to a bird, I think this would be it.

What are these things?

That’s some amazingly fast evolution, even for an Australian animal.   Plastic’s only been around  For a little over 100 years.

i think you might find that the beak has been like that for squillions of years. that might be a little leg-pulling there. it would be like us saying amazing how a bear has evolved to develop claws that can tear plastic.

and john, not just sydney.

You have to marinate them but "tasty" with a mirin dressing.  The flavour is a mix between wombat and koala.
