Another info leak and update from the festival

This pulled verbatim from a Canadian cigar forum ...in the info sheets below it does show some interesting info including the infamous BHK 58 in 10 count boxes. 

The source is an individual known as Gary Bohn. Just as a FYI. 

 

“Notes from the Habanos Festival!  (Not written by me) 

 

1. Cuba is stockpiling tobacco in case of another shortage like three years ago. Up to 30% or the production is what I was told. Plus, by not using all of the tobacco grown, they can create shortages thereby keeping the price of cigars high. 

 

2. Behike Boxes will be made in Cuba. Until recently, they were made in China, but with the purchases of several laser engravers, more boxes and humidors can be made on the island. 

 

3. The reason for the delay in the Novadosos is that Cuba tried to make the boxes but the quality did not meet expectations so they outsourced their production. (Rumor but not confirmed)

 

4. Many factories teach “student” rollers along side of more experienced rollers. Each group of rollers is organized into a team and bonuses and other rewards are earned by the team vs the individual. 

 

5. It takes at minimum 9-12 months for some to achieve a level 9 roller status. Some never make it regardless. 

 

6. Expect great things to come from the Romeo y Julieta Factory, known as the Carlos Balino Factory in the next couple of years as Habanos is putting a lot of resources to improving production there.

Its a mini La trova...they are really expanding the Trini line aggressively. Should be interesting

I could be wrong but I didn’t think that level 9 rollers were that common and I would have though for sure it would take more than nine months to become one.

Sigh. I need to start putting watermarks on my info in the future apparently. With regards to level 9 rollers, I stated that they could make it in 9-12 months. Many take much longer if they ever reach that level at all.

If accurate, that H Upmann Connie #2 is really threading the needle size wise at 134x51. The Royal Robusto is 135x52, and the Connie A already felt close at 140x52. Is there really room in the blend for one more similar vitola? Its becoming like RyJ PCs. Sure to be a blind test ringer when we finally see these in 2023...

... have all been confirmed by Habanos Instagram and Twitter accounts, as has the Bolivar Belicosos Finos Reserva (not on this list).

The regular production stuff and the duty free I can see slipping through the cracks, but it's very surprising that the ELs haven't been confirmed if true. Both CA and Halfwheel have reported that there is only one EL this year...normally you'd expect a fair bit of hoopla announcing a new EL, "event in honour of the new Punch Princesa" etc. And doubly so for a new BHK or BHK Annversary Humidor.

Not an opinion either way, just a bit odd is all.

I thought they canceled behike 58? Something about being too strong and people would overdose on nicotine or something. I remember a topic here in the forum with link to an article. Too lazy to look it up now. Man that BHK 58 really rubs the wrong way for some reason

we did predict, in a recent video, that ring gauges would eventually end up with a square cigar. this is the thin end of the wedge.

Maybe if they would quit rolling so many fat logs they wouldn't have a tobacco shortage. ?

There is no shortage of tobacco as I am told that they are stockpiling the excess in case of another draught.
