El Presidente Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Interesting story. In Cuba, Jewish foods — from kosher meat to bagels with holes — are hard to come by https://www.jta.org/2020/02/13/food/in-cuba-jewish-foods-from-kosher-meat-to-bagels-with-holes-are-hard-to-come-by 2
Popular Post Deeg Posted February 15, 2020 Popular Post Posted February 15, 2020 Maybe, but the circumcision rate for cigars is still 100%. 7
FHFinster Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Great post. Thanks Pres! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
JY0 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 We stumbled on to Hotel Raquel last trip. We had the rooftop to ourselves and enjoyed drinks and a cigar. The building is amazing inside.
SCgarman Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Isn't the practicing of any type of religion in Cuba illegal by government set laws? 1
canadianbeaver Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Great story. And a moyel in a cigar store would do a vital job. “Rednicht! The kinder fershtayun.”* *Forgive my spelling. CB

There’s even a mosque in the Old Havana that opened in the last handful of years. There were a good number of Jews in Cuba before the revolution but almost all fled once Castro came to power. The numbers never meaningfully reestablished.

Religion being outlawed hasn't been the case since the early 90's (and it was pretty openly practiced even before that).

JY0 Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 Interesting side note about that hotel. When we entered the lobby it was empty. We asked if they had a bar where we could enjoy drinks and a cigar. They asked to see our passports. The manager hesitated and had a discussion in Spanish with another employee. The employee told us the hotel was state owned and that we could get in trouble with our government for patronizing them. We chose to stay and the rooftop was amazing. Interesting for sure. 1
BrightonCorgi Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 My old girlfriend brought like two suit cases of supplies to Adath Israel in 2001. They really appreciated her contribution. 1
BrightonCorgi Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Are children generally circumcised in Cuba at birth? Do the parents have a say?
