People tend to forget, Diplomaticos had been the first new brand after the revolution. That is, the first to be developed and actually be marketed. The first that hadn't been "taken" from others (to avoid more unpleasant wording), so there certainly is some heritage to be guarded, you should wonder.

As for the brand's poor market reception: The current situation of this brand is - to a main part - self-inflicted, since it had intentionally and traditionally (quite like QdO) had a limited distribution range (some trademark-issues, also). Therefore, don't blame smokers for lack of demand and low sales when a brand simply isn't visible in a market and when it's degraded to a single format. It seems it had been a decision by HSA, resp. its shareholders, not to cannibalize on Monte.
