Popular Post Notsocleaver Posted January 27, 2020 Popular Post Posted January 27, 2020 Another Cohiba review weekend has come. I don't stock many Cohibas on account of the price, but I do have an old 2013 CoRo box that I am nursing along to see how they perform at the 10 year mark. MUR was a well respected box code at the time, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the El Laguito code at the time. I'm pairing today's CoRo with a New Belgian Nitro Cold Brew Cream Ale. Its a very coffee forward brown ale that I have been liking with cigars lately. This cigar has a pretty bog average wrapper. Claro, not much sheer, but not awful either. Construction in this box has been spot on and the draw on this sample follows suit. there is a little bit of hay on the cold draw. This cigar opens with that lemongrass note and a bit of black pepper. After a few puffs the honey and graham cracker body takes over as the dominate flavor. The lemon grass is most noticeable on the retro hale. I feel like the honey and graham cracker body is something the CoRo shares with Trinidad and LGC, but the Cohiba seems to have more of that 'Cuban Twang' type pleasant sourness than either. Burn remains good in the mid point. As the cigar continues the graham and honey transitions into a more sweet cream flavor. With this transition the lemongrass get more noticeable. I'm really liking the profile at this point. As the cigar starts to burn down to the numb there are some more savory notes, but that might have just been me burning my fingertips on the nub. Overall, this was a perfectly good cigar. I give it a 90. It lacked the complexity that I am looking for in a truly great cigar and I doubt I will buy another box anytime soon. A couple of years back I was debating between buying a box of CoRo or a box of Connie A. At the time there were the same price and I decided I just liked the Connie As better. Now that the Connie A's price has gone down and the CoRo's has gone up, it's no contest. But if I won a box, I would certainly be thrilled ? 10
Sandman Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Nice review. I smoke and have smoked tons of CoRos. One of my favs. To my palate I have never considered it to be that much of a complex cigar, but the blend is on point! It’s a great blend. Of course old examples will exhibit more complexity.
Islandboy Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Nice review. I need to see if anyone stocks that beer here on Maui, sounds righteous.

Pretty sure I picked it up at Foodland, so it should be pretty easy to find for a little while at least. It might be a seasonal release. 1
