The whole package on a Bolivar Tubos No.1 is rather wonderful. The red tube, Simon staring out at you, the perfect size, the aroma that defines 'barnyard', the invariably well constructed cigar - it's all good. A great shame that they are no more...

I'm halfway through this box, bought relatively recently (with another couple on the sidelines) and havn't had a disappointing one yet.

Out and by the fire, as is my usual despite it being close to freezing but it's a still calm night and lovely. Beautiful looking cigar with a bit of sheen to the dark neat wrapper. Perfect draw and on lighting a massive hit of old leather on the first puff. It soon settled to the familiar earthy goodness as I settled in by the flames. Lovely balance of leather, earth and dark chocolate during the first third. Perfect burn throughout, no relights or touch ups at all.

Into the second and a hint of something different, cinnamon? Maybe. Slight tingling taste, almost Christmassy. Great clouds of white smoke being drawn into the updraught of the fire. Nice.

More cocoa flavour into the final third, like a dark praline, almost Christmassy, still with a great balance of earth and leather. Not a subtle cigar, very heavy notes, but great for the outdoors and the fire. Stronger to finish but still good.

Age has melded the flavours but not diminished them. Years left in these if I can keep my hands off them...
