I love how he said he smoked half a box.  Please let us know how this settles out after you contact the powers in Cuba ?

Maybe he LITERALLY smoked half a box, and didn't know to open it first. A dress box could smoke harsh. Especially if you smoke it ROTT.

Tell him to send pictures. You'll need to provide evidence when you open his claim lol.

That email strikes me as such.

  • The authors first language is not English.
  • He thinks "friends of habanos" literally means that Rob is a friend of the Habanos organization? :)

there are some people you can't help no matter how hard you try. i'm sure he took his fakes home, shared them with mates and toasted how clever he was for saving himself a heap buying them that way.

A friend asked me for advice on where to buy a box of Cohiba Robustos.  I mentioned the few big online dealers we all know and used very long time.  He ends up ordering a box from a site that has links left and right that say they are known fake retailer.  Everything about the site was questionable, especially the "sale" on Cohibas for far less than wholesale by a good margin.  He said he's ordered from them before...  I see his desktop humidor with Cohiba's and Bolivar RC's that look basically the same and showed up a real Cohiba Robusto that I brought with me.  Caps are totally different.  Mine has a nice roundness to it and his were pretty flat on the top.  Was "triple cap" on his, but not with any grace.  He then says on Youtube, the videos are like his; delusional....  Tried to save money being smarter than everyone else and has cigars I wouldn't smoke if offered for free...

Why ask for advice if you know everything already...

whilst it is a monumentally stupid email, in fairness to the bloke, he obviously has none of the experience and/or knowledge found throughout this forum. he presumably assumes he bought a legit box and now wants to contact the makers - as we might if we bought something that fell short. perhaps rob should take it as a compliment that he came to him to fix this.

it always staggered me the people you'd meet in cuba who could not be convinced they were buying fakes.

i remember being in cuba with a friend, not on the forum, and we were visiting hamlet. in the backroom at the R&J and a very well dressed and seemingly quite intelligent bloke opened the door and walked in. he was from canada. wanted to know what went on in the backroom and how he got to be part of it - hamlet pointed out that it needed an invitation which pissed our friend off. then he started off on how the cigars on sale in the main area were complete ripoffs and how he could get genuine cigars for a fraction of the price on the street. we tried pointing out that he was buying fakes but he was not having a bar of it.

there are some people you can't help no matter how hard you try. i'm sure he took his fakes home, shared them with mates and toasted how clever he was for saving himself a heap buying them that way.

I have always said this about business but it seems to apply here: " Some people will succeed no matter what you do to them and others will fail no matter what you do for them"

you cannot fix stupid.

AND.......remember, if you try to help out.........No good turn goes unpunished............

Wow, this is a tough crowd.

If the kind fellow who sent the email is reading this, I will help you out.

You should never purchase cigars in Cuba.  They are inferior.  True cigar aficionados (folks who truly appreciate a good cigar) only smoke Gurkha cigars.  Leave those terrible Cubans to the lazy socialists and communists of the world.
