El Presidente Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Monte 2...Upmann 2...Unicos, P2 etal! What is the average time taken by an FOH member to smoke a Piramide
Wookie Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Minimum 1.5 hours. Not unordinary for it to go 2 1/4 when chilling. 1

So the question to members is, when you are smoking faster, how much of a difference is there to the flavour experience. assuming it is the same cigar?
Wookie Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 When it's good I usually know it from the first couple puffs. That's when I savor it. If it's like the piece of s--t E-2 I'm smoking right now I probably herf it. (Nota bene: I have a lot of E2s and some are magnificent. But many are mundane. Extremely frustrating with this vitola). Nothing more extraordinary in this sybaritic pastime when one fires on all cylinders....like the 2018 RyJ Churchill I had last night. 1
Chibearsv Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 I find that smoking slower is just more enjoyable overall. Flavor wise, smoking faster makes the cigar taste more like it's dominant flavor only. For me, I lose flavors that may be there but get covered by the dominant flavor. I'll miss things like nuttiness, cream, and fruit in favor of maybe leather or wood. If I smoke slowly, I pick up a lot more. I'm not in the same league for tasting as a lot of FOHers I've read so slowing down is really important for me to discover new flavors. 1
bbguardsp Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Wind tunnels have been under an hour lol. Perfect draw is 1 hour 15-30. Tighter draws can go longer but have never made more than 1 hour 45 for me.
JohnS Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 For me, definitely 90 to 105 minutes. I've smoked a few Diplomaticos No.2 in 2019 and overall in 2019 I smoked 22 Piramides, at various times. In regards to the flavour experience, I would concur that slowing down makes a difference, however I would advocate that it doesn't make as large a difference as the disparity one experiences between smoking a La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No.4 slowly or quickly, for example.
Deeg Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 I want to meet the cigar ninja who dusts a piramide in 45 minutes... 4
Islandboy Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Hour 45 for me, average. I’m on island time.
Dozerhead Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 About an hour for me. I tend to be a fast smoker but I have to consciously slow myself down. Also depends on the weather conditions.
argrovesjd Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 90 min or a few over that for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
westg Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Usually just over an hour. A good Monte 2 on my own. An hour easy .
Str8BlkCoffee Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 2 hours, easy. I smoke slow anyway. A Short can last an 45 minutes to an hour.
Chucko8 Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 90 minutes to 105 for myself to smoke one usually. I find speeding up induces an acrid and hot flavour which isn't pleasant and masks all the goodness within the stick, thus not allowing the full potential to be enjoyed 1
ayepatz Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 I agree with @JohnS. I find that many cigars exhibit a greater range of flavours when smoked slower (effectively cooler). However, I find that difference to be less pronounced with piramides, as I generally find their blends to be a bit more bellicose, if you’ll pardon the pun. 1
BenW Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Wow ? ... takes me 70-90mins to polish off a petit corona. 1
lovethehaze Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 75-90 Minutes, i also agree with @JohnS and @ayepatz; much less pronounced in this format as compared with a skinny but if smoked to hard and fast it can get rough.. 1
SmokyFontaine Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 I try to slow smoke as much as possible (which is why Petit coronas or Petit robustos is really my sweet spot). The only time I move faster is if I'm having burn/wrapper issues. If I slow smoke, with some regularity I have to fight the wrapper. Maybe it speaks to the advice of lower rH for CCs, but I keep mine at about 64-65. NCs between 65-70% don't give me the same wrapper problems. Long story short, a piramide will easily take me an hour. I very rarely nub cigars either. Not for some etiquette crap, but I tend to lose interest just past the band on most CC's.
BoliDan Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Not typically a piramide smoker, but in general a 6 inch 50rg+, I'd go 80ish minutes when smoking fast. I definitely notice a difference in the final third, It will be more bitter and acrid (not unbearable) than when I pump the breaks. If I smoke it slow, it just seems to be more rich and silky on the tail end. 2
RichUK Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 If I am out walking the dog, maybe 60-75 mins. If I am sitting in the garden, 90 mins.
BrightonCorgi Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 45 - 60 minutes would be my estimate. That's a casual size cigar more for make a lot of smoke and having fun. For me, not usually the only cigar of the night kind of cigar.

For me it's the fear the cigar will go out lol. I like to keep the cherry even with the wrapper as close as possible. I hate when I let the cigar rest longer to slow myself down and have to double puff to get the wrapper ignited again when the cherry has moved inward for example. 1

An enormous amount. In my experience the majority of smokers are smoking way, way too fast. 1
