The 6 pack resulted from trying an EE previously and liking it. Starting off VERY strong with the Le Hoyo de Rio Seco! Box code RAT DIC 19 which I believe is the La Corona factory. I love the wrapper color and consistency as well as cold aroma. I can’t wait to see if they smoke as good as they look and smell! Edit: I forgot to mention there’s a couple cracked feet but who cares when they look and smell like this. Next up is a box of Trinidad Media Luna. This is actually my first ever box of any Trinidad so I have no expectations. I’d heard from some of you that Trinidad’s quality took a dip in years past but have recently improved so now is probably a good time to give them a try (albeit from a “blind” purchase). Box code on these is SOU MAR 20, and I believe that indicates it is from El Laguito but someone please correct me if I’m wrong. Beautiful color and, again, aroma at cold. No disappointment at all! Very pleased in fact, and I wish I had bought more! Well, this ones for you all that guessed at least one of these boxes was going to be dud. I’m surprised it was the Monte 2, however. If I were guessing, I would have said the Le Hoyo de Rio Seco would have disappointed only because I bought two disappointing boxes of Le Hoyo de San Juan a couple years ago and was burned by the experience. Well, if I was shocked at how well the Rio Seco’s turned out, I am equally shocked at how dry and dull these Monte 2’s look and feel. Veiny, rough, a little “splotchy,” and lacking in any kind of oil or sheen. They do have a characteristic baking cocoa aroma at cold, but we all know what happens when you eat a spoonful of baking cocoa ... Nevertheless, it’s a box of Monte 2 and who knows, it could end up being a fantastic box. It smells just under medium so I might be able to crack into these sooner than I normally would for a box of Monte. As others have said SOU is not El Laguito, but the question did come up of what SOU is in the following thread: My conclusion (or guess) after analysing a list of boxes with codes was that SOU most likely replaced the previous code of UEB. JZBdano Posted January 14, 2021 Share Posted January 14, 2021 @cmbarton I just started smoking out of an LUB MAY 14 Upmann No 2 box that's down right ugly. Cigars are smoking really good though. I guess it's what's on the inside that really counts. The wrapper is probably only 5% weight of a pyramid.
