I’m planning to pick him up a legit box here, I feel pretty awful for him.

Let  him enjoy them. Maybe give him some real cohibas down the road and he will figure it out.

Horrible advice!  You never know what is in a fake.    Not worth the risk.

As I said, just enjoy. It was a gift. There are people, that would act like "phallic symbols", and tell your dad,  that  they are fake. But all that does is make him feel bad. It's not like he is buying these all the time...
