Diplomatico Bushido

TOS OCT 15

This will be my Christmas eve cigar. It is too good a cigar to smoke with too many people around as it captivates/demands my full attention. This glorious 109 is complex, subtle, moorish. The finest Regional Release that PCC has produced since inception of the program.

Diplomatico Number 2

TOS MAR 16

The best piramide of 2016 to my mind. I think we have all been a little stunned during the course of the year with the 3rd quarter 15 and 2016 Dips. The flavour concentration is divine and they share more than just a little DNA with the Bushido. They have benefitted from that TOS magic.

Bolivar Corona Gigantes

PUR MAR 16

This cigar could have been number 1. Probably should have been number 2. I really can’t split the three. Consistency wise…the best cigar of 2016. So damn rich in the smoking and 15/16, so far ahead of any other Bolivar Corona Gigantes of the past 15 years.

Partagas Lusitania

OBM JUN 16

The Mrs consistency of Double Coronas. They produce these by the truck load and I am seldom disappointed with what I find. Quality this year has been high but overall a tad below 2015. Flavourwise it has remained consistent. Lusi reminds me of the Sade song…"Smooth Operator". The smoke produces a soft, deep, velvety nature on the palate. There is a touch of Partagas spice but it is intermingled against a backbone of quality succulent secco.

Montecristo Number One

Outside of the Dip 2, the comeback cigar of 2016. Yes…they are 2015’s…it just goes to show you how few people outside of the global inner cigar circle some them. So why a comeback cigar?....well the construction is generally near flawless, the wrapper quality generally excellent and the flavour is Montecristo to it’s core. I generally smoke a Montecristo Especial when seeking quentisential high quality Montecristo. This year I have changed to the Montecristo Number One. They have been exceptional…..and they are a Lonsdale!

Fonseca Number 1

UME MAR 15

Two lonsdales in my top 13? Great days indeed! Oh how you sniggered when I said earlier in the year that the current Fonseca Number 1 was something special. It was fuller than the past….but just under medium. Flavour wise… more layers, more nuances, toasted marshmallow. Quality has been outstanding. One of those cigars that I get a ton of positive feedback on. Welcome back Fonseca 1 and long may you remain at this standard.

H. Upmann Magnum 56.

MEG MAR 16

I never wanted to like this cigar. The gauge is too big for me, the price point excessive to my mind. Yet the flavour…the flavours….they just draw me in like a moth to flame. I hate this cigars physics. I adore it’s balance, richness and undoubted 5 star aging abilities. It is destined to be a classic in the years to come. Alongside the Bolivar Corona Gigantes the construction and flavour consistency in 2016 has put them on another level.

Ramon Allones Club Allones

SOM DIC 15

What a full flavoured cigar this has been. The strength of a Partagas 898 V with the stewed fruit richness of Ramon Allones. Just a cracker combination and a forum favourite. Quality has generally been good to very good but I have seen enough duds to just mark it down one or two spots. One of the cigars I reach for when I look a palate shaking experience.

Punch Punch

ALO MAR 16

The Punch Punch of this year (and last) has been sensational. I can only refer you to the thread of the "Santy Blind Tasting" where this standard production cigar outpolled the Cuban Regional by 88% among 36 tasters. Not a bad effort indeed but it didn’t surprise me as I have been spruiking them for some time. That medium full body combined with spiced cream, touch of leather, delicate sweet and sour notes just hooks you deep. Quality has been excellent again in 16. A well deserved place in the top 13.

Bolivar Belicoso Finos

BBF is one of my best cigar mates. It has been since 2014. The second half of this year quality has dropped off a little but up until then it was just outside the top 5. What I love about this cigar is that it just satisfies me in every way. The body is medium full. The flavours rich, round and vibrant. There is simply no comparison to much of the BBF rubbish produced between 99 and 2012/(early part 13). A well priced reliable staple.

San Cristobal La Fuerza

TOS MAR 16

The la Fuerza tastes like Christmas. Molasses, sweet bread/brioche, light coffee…..hell, you could even convince yourself it has hints of eggnog. In terms of complexity, I am not sure that there is a more complex cigar coming out of Cuba today. If you are a flavour junky such as myself then the la Fuerza is a masterpiece.

Hoyo De Monterrey le Hoyo Du Prince

TOR JUN 16

This Petit Corona "ish" gem is my small cigar of choice in 2016. I smoke a lot of Petit Corona’s and enjoy most of them. However consistenly the prince outperforms them all. The upside is that they will age superbly but even young they are smoking a treat with such "BIG" flavours they you often just sit back and wonder how they do it. Cream, cedar, bitter cooking chocolate, black coffee. Box after box after box…..just a pocket flavour rocket.

Cohiba Robusto

ETP JUN 16

I wasn’t going to put it on the list as there haven’t been too many in the early part of this year. However every time I have had one in 16 the quality has been there in spades coinciding with classic coffee, cream, honey and citrus. Production of CORO may be down some 70% in 2016 but what they have produced has been bloody excellent. A great Cohiba Robusto is a cut above most other Robusto to my tastes. I have a gut feeling that 2016 CORO may be remembered as one of the better years for them. There was certainly no overproduction to worry about.

Superb.   Have one yet?   That's a drool-worthy purchase there.   Still have not sampled a single EE yet, but I did buy the 10ct from the locker sale a couple days ago.  Looking forward to trying them.

Received my package from 2016 Encuentros De Amigos Festival today and here it is....... the Havana Club glasses are from the country event at Hector Luis Farm, and the 6 pack of Siglo VI Cañonazos are from the Salvador Farm

I just received my Christmas sampler today.  Cigars look great.  I'm really intrigued by the Fonseca Number 1 as I've never had one but I enjoy the size.  Looking forward to "sampling".

Picture a Partagas Serie D no4 on sterioids in a Lonsdale format. I've smoked one out of a box from the last time they popped up on 2424. They are so delicous. Can't wait to get a little more age on them

From a FOH sampler been resting since 10/20............HU#2..........very nice smoke definitely good now destined for greatness in a few years.  Toughed it out on a cold 36F night........
