The joy of Cuban cigars, really cigars in general, is figuring out what you like and what you don’t.  Sometimes, there are cigars that seem to be universally beloved yet leave you scratching your head.  You ask yourself, what’s all the hype about?  What am I missing?

For me, it’s the JL2 and Connie A with the HdM San Juan a close runner-up.  I’ve had many and none have knocked my socks off.  The flavors aren’t there for me, and I am almost ashamed to admit it because of how glowing the reviews are!

Confession time: what cigars do you feel are the most-overrated based on your own personal experience?

Prices will be coming down any day now

Good news for us critics...

Heresy!!! ??? Seriously, those are two of my favorites.  But, I’m with you on the San Juan. I also don’t get nearly as excited about the Party E2 as most others do.

Talisman, punch 898, erdm tainos. I just cant justify spending the insane amounts these releases demand. I'm sure they are good smokes, just not for me. I'll stick to the regular production I know and love and can literally get 5x as many compared to a box of talisman. It seems like the cigar world is starting down the same road bourbon took a few years back. Hype and FOMO along with a false sense of scarcity/rarity are sending prices through the roof!

I wouldn't say overrated, but rather, I just don't get the utility that others do. My buds just aren't wired that way.

Cohiba Siglo VI, Cohiba Robusto Supremo, RA SCC

Most DC's.....I get they are sort of Zen, potpourri sticks, than something you want to force.  But I just miss the zing, I want searing personality and edge. I just don't have the attention span

SCDLH Principe.....don't get it

Cohiba,   apart from Medio Siglo, and Piramides Extra

Powder puff hoyos like Epi 1 & Epi 2.   when you've had good hoyos, these just seem pointless.

The JL2 have been hit and miss with me. I had my first this past weekend in about six months. The box just hit two years old and it was exponentially better than it’s predecessors. I was wondering about the hype as well until this experience. Who knows though, the next could be a dud.

Most LE/RE especially when you factor in price/performance though I have had a few stellar ones!

Scdlh la fuerza and principe maybe just scdlh in general. All i get is damp cardboard just not a marca for my pallet.

Small sample size for me, so maybe just bad luck but I have not enjoyed fundadores that much. I like the format, and really like the Reyes, so I don’t think it’s just that they aren’t to my taste. I’ve had quite a few with poor construction and even those that didn’t just had muddled flavor which became harsh after a point. In contrast I have consistently enjoyed even much younger Reyes much more. Perhaps I’ll just smoke two back to back the next time I think I want a fundy.

Well overrated assumes others hold them in high esteem.  I can't say from my list if that's true with all the cigars, but...

SCDH LCDH line up

Re-release of the Bolivar Gold Medals

QdO Imperiales

Standard Sancho Panza's beyond Belicoso

Re-release of the Hoyo Particulares

Older Fonseca's

Vegueros

I have a hard time calling something overrated just because it maybe isn’t exactly my kind of cigar, but Quai d'Orsay last year... I mean both the 50 and 54 are great smokes but not on that kind of level. And I don’t believe people actually liked the Fonseca No.1 as much as they say they did.

Fonseca No. 1 is a world different than it was 20 years ago.

Thanks to this site I'm getting much more patient with my cigars so I certainly don't have a final opinion.  I'm still waiting for a Lusitania to wow me. I also don't see the value in any Behike.  And I haven't had any RA that made me want to reach for another right away. It sure is fun to keep trying as many different varieties as I can afford.

Very interesting thread. As a relative CC newbie I am still figuring out what I like and don’t like. Can’t say things are necessarily overrated - other than the limited selection of the special double banded cigars I have tried really underwhelmed for the price, particularly compared with some of the regular production cigars.

I have a lot more to try before I’ll say anything is overrated. For now, just not to my current tatstes

I've been smoking CCs for about a year and a half so I'm very limited on the number I've smoked, especially with age, but I'll give my opinion.

RASS.  I've tried to like them because they get so much love on here, but I don't get it.  I just get boring tobacco flavor and nothing more.  I get more joy out of some NCs.  I'm hoping it changes as I got a few more.  I have a little faith because I thought the same thing about the PD4 and then I had one that was great. Changed my mind quick and I purchased some more.  Still on the journey!

I’m keeping an open mind on a few that I’ve had a small sample of but didn’t get - HdM San Juans and Fonseca 1’s.

I’ve been disillusioned by the first 2 Talismans from my box thus far, but like all Cohibas, I remain hopeful time will help improve this.

But after burning through 1 ½ boxes of RASS, I’m still waiting to be wowed.

Aside from a select few vitolas I find interesting, and the La Escepcion resurrection specifically, the LE/RE cigars have been an epic disappointment. I say this in regards to the price/expectation equation. Rarely have they delivered something unique worthy of the price jump beyond what regular production sticks do.
