I love the PLP's gonna try to grab what I can find in Havana in February. What other cigar has the same or close to same flavor profile as the PLP ?Possibly the PL Monte?

Grab them while you can. Discontinued as of 2019. I'm sure there are boxes available in Havana. I haven't detected a shortage.

As far as profile, it's PL but definitely a lower grade of tobacco. But I like them. I suppose PLMC is the closest but there's not much else in the lineup to compare it to.

As a relative CC newbie this is the only CC where I have smoked my way through a whole box (2016).   There were a couple of duds, most were good solid smokes, and then there were a couple that were outstanding caramel candy treats--I guess those got the high grade tobacco by mistake.  ?

Try a 3 year old PLMC. You'll see a huge contrast in quality of tobacco. Not that PLP can't be quite good--as I said, I like them. But there is definitely a step up. A 5-year old PLPC is also going to be something a PLP can never be.

There were plenty of PLP's in Havana in November for certain.  Amy and I love them for good easy smokes.  Not the same overall profile but try a Punch Petite Coronation.  Also a great little short cigar, especially lately.

I was told once that plmc are rolled with long, full cut tobacco while the plp used the shorter pieces.

That's correct...the PL Panetelas are handmade short-filler cigars, and the PL Montecarlos are handmade full leaf cigars.

Open a PLP, they're mostly long filler, some small pieces. I don't think they use enough short pieces. Tough to roll a 36 RG with long filler. If they used all short, they probably wouldn't plug as often!

They are a cuban sandwich, mix of short and long filler. I have never had plugged PLP. Hope it won't change because I have few boxes of them
