Advice from Car Smokers

Crack the driver window, fan on full from windshield vent, close the driver side air vent, do not recirculate. Smoke with your left hand by the window opening near the mirror (perfect draft), ash and and blow smoke in the same spot. If you slow down roll the window down a bit more as the pressure difference will change.  

I frequently smoke on trips (also have leather seats and weathertech mats) and my car does not smell at all. If it ever smells buy an odor sponge, gets it right out. Regular interior detailing also goes a long way in keeping a car smelling fresh.

So what do you guys do with the nub when you are done, but still have to keep driving?

The Stinky Ash Can is helpful in the car. Nub goes in, lid closes, gets dumped out when I stop.

I almost never run into this b/c my commute is about 50-70 minutes and i smoke slow, but in the rare event this occurs as @BuzzArd said I always have a red solo cup with coffee usually not water at that point in the day and this becomes the final resting place, but as I mentioned literally I will pull over and put it out, never in the car and then dispose of properly from that point.

My moon roof has a vent feature. I think most have this. The rear end of it opens up about two inchs and sucks smoke out pretty well. I have a Honda truck and the center  rear back window opens so I crack it a bit. Make sure the climate system is not recirculating. I have a cup holder ashtray and I never leave it in the truck. That think will smell the vehicle up something terrible. I have a garage attached to my home so I leave the moon roof and windows open overnight after I smoke in the pick up. No one has ever noticed that I smoke cigars in my truck on occasion.

I put a splash on a hand towel and put it under my seat or on the floor mat. I like the bouquet one the best you only need a little splash on a little rag but it does stain so try and use a rag or hand towel you don't care about.

Thanks man! I noticed that they sell tins on that site as well as extra rag type things......I figured I could use my own.

Normally i wouldn't advise this, but with a 3 month at home and the cold here my time is very limited.. to try to smoke a cigar at home is a worse proposition then all the boxes that keep arriving from all over the world at my door step...lol. At least those I can muster a good story or fetch before she even knows they were there. Having said this and now having smoked in the car for a solid few months and her getting in it and not saying anything about the smell is proof enough for me. The little man does not ride in my car so that is covered in it's own right just in case.

I've found keeping a mail drop at the local UPS Store does wonders for marital bliss. Well worth the $15/month, plus they're signed for and kept indoors.

As much as I travel (and order) it's a godsend!

It’s leather with weathertech mats covering most of the carpet.  What about the cloth interior roof liner?   That’s my main concern and the exposed carpet. 

I guess any car is going to have some cloth or fabric but seems likely there are lots of good tips on the thread to try.

This has been an absolute game changer for me. Works great. I’ve been smoking in my car for over a year. Almost everyday coming home from work and sometimes In The morning. If I leave the windows open in the garage over the weekend the car usually smells fine come Monday morning. Might just be I’ve gotten used to the smell though.

Yes.  Sometimes I think there is no more smell, and then someone who doesn’t smoke gets in the car and tells me they can smell it.

 

.....The obvious solution to the problem is to only hang out with cigar smokers.

Does that lid have a solid seal to it?  Thinking about escaping smoke and potentially dumping contents.  Solid seal covers both of my concerns.  Thanks.

If you have leather/vinyl seats you can always grab a cheap ozone generator from amazon and blast the cab from time to time.  AFAIK it's the only surefire way to clean the air (but won't work as well if the odor has permeated absorbent surfaces).  It will also work for other spaces you smoke in, so it's a pretty good tool to keep on hand.

@Mikeltee recommended the same thing.  If either of you are currently using this or have a recommendation for one, please post a link in Amazon or wherever.   Seems to be multiple options on amazon ranging from expensive to economical.  I just want the thing to work...

There are a lot of options available and a lot of them are probably fine.  This is the only one I've tested... can't attest to the longevity, but it works (you might want to occasionally wipe the seats down too, but this should effectively clean the air).  Might be overkill for a car, and I've never used it for a space that small, so I really wouldn't know what to recommend procedure-wise either.  You definitely don't want to breathe the stuff, so I'd probably reach an extension cord out into the driveway or something.  I use a germ guardian air filter in the den to suck up the majority of the smoke (there are certainly better brands available; it's just the one I happen to own) and then plug the ozone generator up to clear the stink out occasionally (windows open, towel under the door).  Once again, if you decide to go this route, follow all instructions/safety precautions.  Breathing ozone is bad for your lungs, but it will dissipate fairly quickly and take the smoke stink with it.
