Watching Billy Connolly's Tracks Across America last night and he visited Matt's Bar in Minneapolis for a Jucy Lucy cheeseburger--a burger with a lagoon of cheese inside the patty... Dear lord! :hungry: Genius!

Apparently there is some war between Matt's and another place in the same street over who invented the burger and who serves it best. Matt's spells it "Jucy" the other place "Juicy". I've been to the states a few times, but I am willing to go back purely to try this burger, weigh-in on the debate ;).

Last trip, I think the best burger I had was at Harlem Shake--their Classic Burger. Simple, dirty, delicious soul food. I'm not sure it's the best burger I've ever had but it certainly left an impression. We went back twice.

Anyhow, I'm curious...

Who's had a Lucy? How good is this burger?

Or what's your best burger ever?

Links and images would be most welcome.

Never been to the places in question (and didn't check the link to see how they make them), but I've made burgers with the cheese integrated forever. Cut up cheese of choice, mix in with the beef, add some worcestershire sauce, form the patties, throw on grill - no muss, no fuss.

Juicy Lucy's are good.

The best burger I have ever had was the Bad Ass Burger at Charlie P's in Vienna, Austria. The beef is 28-day dry aged beef from Irish Dexter and Hereford cattle on a Brioche bun with Bearnaise sauce and carmelized onions. I think about it often.

I hope both establishments claimed that they invented this style of burger, because there is Zero chance that either actually invented the Hamburger.

Louis' Lunch in New Haven, Connecticut was making Hamburgers more than 50 years before either of these places opened their doors. Most "experts", including the Library of Congress agree that LL is the inventor of the Hamburger, but this kind of thing is rife for argument.

I've had some great burgers, even in Cuba, but the simplicity of the burger at Louis' Lunch is hard to beat. A Patty, White Toast, cheese, grilled onion and a slice of Tomato.

I have had Juicy Lucy when I lived in MN, but not from either of those places. It was good not great. Best burger I have ever had was the Triple Prime Burger that used to be served at Ruby Tuesday.

"I think about it often" Ha ha... Love that line.

This actually reminds me that there was another standout burger from my last trip to the States, a pub called The Red Lion in Chicago. English guy ran it. Great bloke. The place is like a library (mostly war books and memorabilia). Anyhow, they do a great burger with carmelized onions. Simple and classic. It was pretty damn good, too!

Have had Ju(i)cy Lucies from both, they’re both good. But in the Twin Cities, I think the best burger is from The Nook in St. Paul

I've frequented the Kua'aina on the North Shore and the one down by Ala Moana when it was open. Pretty decent burger, their fries are pretty good too.

Haven't tried the Lucy, but if you're ever in NYC head over to the Gramercy Tavern. They have an off menu Bacon Burger. They only make 40 per day, 20 for lunch and 20 for dinner. If you're lucky enough to try one, you can thank me later.

*The Juicy Lucy sounds fab - that is if it's real cheese they're using and not American Cheese or Cheez Whiz or mayonnaise with cheddar cheese powder in it like Arby's did with their first introduction to a "cheese" roast beef years ago: It was 8 years before I ate at Arby's again after that boner

Oh God yeah... In N Out... totally forgot about them! They're amazing, too.

Yeah but the fries suck so much!

Paradise Pup is a small lunch shack that is only open in the summer near O'hare field in Chicago.  They make a burger that has Merkts cheese and bacon on it that is amazing!  Best I've ever had.  There isn't one part of it that's good for your body... but it is really good for your soul.

As a Minnesota resident I most certainly take pride in the Juicy Lucy as our "native" burger but my favorite is the original butter burger from Solly's Grill in Milwaukee. The first time I went there I thought they were adding mayonnaise to the burgers. It didn't take me long to figure out that it was butter! With the cheese , butter and caramelized onions it is the greasiest most delicious burger I have ever eaten. I keep this photo on my phone just to show people when the topic of great food comes up in conversation.

Thank you for reminding me about Harlem Shake. We went there on a very impromptu instance wandering around Harlem last fall. The Hot Mess was quite an enjoyable experience. Everything we had was awesome.

Oddly, didn’t make it to either of the Lucy spots but did have a burger at The Nook and agree with @ac031898 . Total hole in the wall kicking out some mighty tasty fare.

Shake Shack, In-n-Out and Steak-N-Shake put out the best in the fastish food venue. (Steak-N-Shake only included due to more locations nationwide)

With regards to chains, people are mentioning In-N-Out, but nothing about Habit Burger. If you're in the know, you know that the Habit has a wider selection and better burgers. As a local Angeleno put it: In-N-Out is where all the tourists go because of all the hype, the Habit Burger is where the locals go for a better burger and to avoid the tourists. My go to is the Santa Barbara Char with bacon and a side of tempura green beans or onion rings.

I also love burgers from Fatso’s last stand in Chicago.

Also loved in-and out and Fatburger chains when I used to live in SoCal.

Mother of God... that looks amazing!
