benfica_77 Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 https://halfwheel.com/trinidad-celebrates-50-years-with-five-new-cigars/294666/ It was announced in November of 2019 the Esmeralda, Media Luna and the Topes. Just curious when people expect them to be out in the wild for purchase.
99call Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 Seen the Media Luna in some Swiss shops, but at modern rip off HSA prices i.e the 12 cigars for the price of 24.
t1String Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 I picked up some of the Topes a couple of months ago from the LCDH in Toronto. IIRC, they didn't have many.
NSXCIGAR Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 They've hit LCDHs. I tried the Luna. Not impressed. They had already sold out of Topes which I hope is similar in blend to the 16 Topes EL which I really liked. The Esmeralda I didn't see but it's the size I'm interested in the least. Although if it's good I can handle it. 1 1

The strength of the lemongrass was surprising to me and didn't particularly suit my palate. I was hoping some time down would tame it. YMMV though.

I think there might have been a bit of that in the Luna. It was a few weeks ago but I recall it being very dry and woody. Definitely not the typical coffee & doughnut of Trini. The Topes EL were very nice. Very smooth and rich but just under medium. All seco leaf. Very Trini in DNA. Too expensive but it was an excellent cigar. Scored it 95. I have one left in deep storage. No idea when it'll get smoked. 2
t1String Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 That's sounds spot on. Incredibly dry, and i was recalling some light nuttiness on the edges, but it could have easily been more woody than nutty. Not what I was expecting...
nKostyan Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 So far I see it at the black market. LCDHs in Europe have them too, but seem it is not from the distributors.
Hoepssa Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 Current Topes not similar to 2016EL Topes, but ready to smoke now. Nice cigars, just Trinidad price ...? 4
bbguardsp Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 I'm wondering with the Esmeralda being similar in size to La Trova if people will just reach for whichever one is cheaper lol. I'm also glad they reversed the arrangement of the cigars in the new Trinidad boxes. In the world of B&M it's more aesthetically pleasing to place cigars in a humidor to cater to the higher population of right-handed people. They have to flip a Vigia around after taking it out of the box to see the band for example.
Tstew75 Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 I'll be interested in the Topes when available. I'm not expecting it to be the same blend as the past EL, cause that chance seems remote at best. As far as an Trini smoking good young, I don't ever remember an example outside of a single 18 Coloniales I smoked last year. Hell, the 18 UAO Vigias I have are borderline unsmokable- so young & disjointed. Trini = Hold Hold Hold. 1

I'll go with a slight twinge of nuttiness in there. I think you're spot on. I agree, not what I was expecting. Will be interesting to see how these sell and if a following develops. I can tell you that I'm not thrilled with the blend. 23 hours ago, Tstew75 said: ...I'm not expecting it to be the same blend as the past EL, cause that chance seems remote at best. @t1String's description has me doubtful. Sounds like the Luna and Topes are similar which means nothing like the Topes EL. I'd have to go back to see what HSA's track record is on ELs that became regular production. I want to say they differ in blend but it's been a while since they've done it and I've compared. 23 hours ago, Tstew75 said: As far as an Trini smoking good young, I don't ever remember an example outside of a single 18 Coloniales I smoked last year. But I've never had any luck with young Coloniales or Vigia.
El Presidente Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 It looks like we will see the Topes and Luna in the next few weeks. 2
benfica_77 Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 @El Presidente Sweet!! Looking forward to your Topes review! I have a feeling Ken will gripe about the RG.
SenorPerfecto Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 The Esmeralda are gangbusters. Get in.

Lunettesman Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Available in Switzerland since beggining of October. Got a box of topes. Couldn't resist. 1
nKostyan Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 Who knows why at the bottom of the boxes, all new products Trinidad now have two of the same stamps?

My guess would be so that with all the various health warning sticker requirements they want to maximize the chance of the stamp not being covered. 1
Popular Post NSXCIGAR Posted December 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted December 8, 2019 Just sampled the Topes: Very happy with this cigar. Not as refined as the Topes EL but better than any Vigia I've ever had. Trini DNA all the way. No trace of that odd nuttiness or woodiness I found in the Luna. I think these need a year or two to kind of mesh a little more but I think these will be a winner. 92 points now with a 95 potential with some time. 3 2
Derboesekoenig Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 92-95 pts. Really--that high? Ok, I'm in. Let's drink this cool-aid. Though I have been partial to the fundadores...
BeerPimp Posted December 8, 2019 Posted December 8, 2019 I really want to try one of the Trinidad 50 Aniversario but I don't see myself spending the coin on one of the 1 of 100 humidors. Not to mention there is basically no chance of seeing one. Is it possible this will be released later in boxes?

Actually, @ElJavi76 asked the worker at the La Corona factory why he was stamping the boxes twice. His answer was, “Because some genius told me to.” ? 1 5
