I was talking about relative humidity as it applies to a 70/70 standard for cigars:

"If your temperature changes from 70°F to 72°F the RH should read 65% in order to keep an AH comparative to the standard of 70/70.

There are exceptions to the rule, though. Once the temperature goes below 60°F, there is no corresponding RH level that will give you an appropriate AH. The air simply can not hold that much moisture."

Hmm learning something new that certain temps have maximum RHs

I'm thinking this may be an issue for me too, as I live in a place with basically 2 seasons of "too hot to live" and "cold enough to be annoying".  Been having blandness issues which I thought might be a function of too much humidity (that's a concern, too) but it may be in fact the colder temperatures.

It just doesn't make much sense to heat or cool my entire place to 70 when I'm not around - gas/electric gets very expensive here.  Any of the low-cost wineador/cigar cooler options anyone especially recommends?  My collection isn't huge so something of modest size would work fine.

I live in vegas and use 3 wineodors. One I bought on Amazon and two I picked up used in town . Total invested under 2 bills. Keep all my cubans at 65\66 degrees at 69\ 70% humidity.

Did they have any heating function, or just cooling?

Cooling only

Thanks.  See, that's a problem for me, as I don't want to heat the house to 65 or 70 all day when I'm not in it, and it's anywhere from 40-50 degrees outside most of the time during Dec-Feb.  That gets really expensive.

Yeah, I saw that - it looks pretty great, actually.  Problem is getting it to me here in Japan, as they don't ship internationally and I don't see any authorized resellers (or even Ebay shippers) for Japan.

The old rule of thumb says don't keep your cigar stash warmer than 70 degrees F for a few reasons. I'm most likely going to be away from my home quite a bit this winter and I will set the thermostat at 40 F when we are away. The cigars may well stay at that temp for months. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with storing cigars at low temperatures? Am I taking any risk with my stash? Thanks in advance.

I have the exact same problem, I'm gone from home for several months of the really cold weather. I move my wineador and coolidors into the laundry (smallest) room of my house and use an oil filled radiator to keep just that room warm. It's really cheap, I figure it cost me less than a dollar a day to keep that one room around 55-60 degrees. Done it for several years now with no ill effects to my stash. Any big box home store will have them as well as Amazon. If you do get one, make sure it is not digital so it will come back to life if your power goes out.
