Real ST. Dupont?

I seen this online and I was wondering if it's real or fake ST Dupont. Thanks in advance for the heads up.

Decent chance that it’s real, because it’s old and bashed and well-used looking. Can’t be sure of course. And it could well be genuine but knackered.

It's definitely older and might need an overhaul.  $150 ish in the USA to have that done.

That model does not have the classic Dupont "ping" when you open it so if that's one of the perks of a Dupont for you, look elsewhere.

Looks legit with a nice patina. Does it still work though?

When the valve cover is unscrewed, is there a colored ring?  If it's an old light the odds are in your favor for authenticity.  Then again and old lighter is probably leaking and needs a $90 service...

I hate to say it, but the fake ones are just as nice in terms of construction.  They may not be silver plate, lacquer, etc...  They ping and work and feel just the same.  A friend growing up with me use to run ST Dupont.  He created all the 007 product lines.

Here is a gorgeous fake. Black, red and gold dust lacquer. V hard to tell this is not real unless you are an expert and can take it to pieces.

didn't end up buying that one, cause it was broken. so i found another one in France from 1972. but on th ebooklet it says that the lighter is marked in the list by a black dot. no idea what it means. this one looks more legit and at least it works  so I wont be complaining about paying fraction of the price

Sorry, but you can immediately tell it's a fake by the serial number - way too perfectly aligned (real ones have each number stamped individually).

@RDB  The PARIS under the ST DUpont is centric under it. which isn't the case in the real ones.

The dot could be which fluid is needed.  Dupont's are color coded so you know which canister to buy.  It's usually a ring inside around the fill nozzle.  That style is usually green if not mistaken.

thanks for the info. I think in that case this lighter is authentic if i'm not mistaken.

My issue is trying to refill my dupont, i got one the adapters off ebay but it's always tricky to fill and 50/50 the gas sprays out everywhere.

Try freezing the lighter and warming the gas up under your arm pit, then when you do the fill it transfers super fast and has less chance of a 'wobble' happening.

Buy the seller, not the pics of the products. If the seller is a fraud they'll put pictures of a real one up then send you box of matches, or maybe some chocolate. If it's a legit seller they'll send you a legit product.

So I bought the gold one and as per a jewlery store certied in st dupont he told me it's from the 1960s 1970s and it's original. Only the new ones are being faked. I was wondering what would be a resell value of it.

So this whole thing was about flipping a lighter?

I’d be surprised if you get more than $100 - $125 for it.
