Chucko8 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Pretty much on every cigar that I smoke. Helps to detect some flavours I find 2
Lomey Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Never. I tried it early on and failed. Like said above, I have enough sinus stuff going on living in Kansas where everything grows without adding smoke irritant to it.

Riverstyx Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 For those that complain of the burning sensation - try it on a well-aged cigar. Most of the time, it takes most/all the burn out for a smooth retrohale.
Popular Post SenorPerfecto Posted November 6, 2019 Popular Post Posted November 6, 2019 If you don't retrohale, you might as well just smoke Gurkhas. 1 5
JoeyBones777 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 If I can't retrohale a cigar then I don't want to smoke it. 1
joeypots Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 It’s all about the cigar and how harsh it is. If the cigars has enough age to have removed the rough edges and is properly humidified I’ll blow a lot of smoke out of my nose.
madandana Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Yes, every time. It seems unnatural not to.
Trevor2118 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Yes. My senses need all the help they can get. 1 2
Streetz Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Used to never do it, mostly because it was unpleasant with NC’s. Tried it with various CC’s and found it to be way better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Euripidespants Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 I’ve done this for a long time...as has stated before especially helps with more complex, aged, and lighter bodied cigars...especially with vintage cigars. There are taste buds on the back of the palate that are completely wasted without retrohale. If you aren’t used to it there’s a sting at first but once you adapt to it there is a huge benefit. I’ll even say that you don’t get the full taste of a cigar without the retrohale.. although sometimes it’s a bit strong and I’ll sneeze (often a good young bolivar and partagas), I’ll back off a bit, but most every puff has some retrohale.
mbflash80 Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 I never do it...tried it years ago and it didnt add anything for me so I never even consider it to be honest...maybe ill try it again...but cant see it becoming a normal thing for me.
Oscar300 Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Nah, I dont do it, not a pleasant experience. I all ways thought the guys that smoked cigarettes first then moved onto cigars did it. Out of Habit?
Cigar Surgeon Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Your sense of taste is linked to the olfactory system. If you haven't done the experiment of eating food, or drinking a spirit while plugging your nose, I'd suggest you try it. It will be an eye opener as to how much it plays a part in your ability to bring out complexities in flavor. If you don't retrohale, the next time you're smoking try replicating a chewing motion as if you were chewing a candy and see if you can pick up a difference in flavor depth. 1
Fugu Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 I don't need to blow smoke through my nostrils to get my olfactory senses into play. Like I don't exaggeratedly exhale through the nose when dinking wine or eating fine food.... Working more subtle for me, and even a small part might get back in in reverse-mode. Playing the Dragon-man never did it for me.
medzikone Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Well, I didn't drink or eat food by my nose at least. I don't retrohale often. But I love to sniff smoke when I'm puffing.
Hotboxx Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 For me anything with a little age (4 years +) is way more enjoyable. Although the Partagas E1 2017 LE is like stuffing truffles into your brain. Very nice
frenchkiwi Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 Q: do i retrohale when smoking? A: are bears catholic? does the pope $hit in the woods? does the bear pope $hit catholically? That would be an oecumenical matter. etc ?
Vortigan Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 I have to try really hard not to! I have sometimes wondered if I may be missing a subtly here or there with any given cigar if I retrohale continuously, not sure that that makes any logical sense but it's why I try to focus on not doing it when I remember to.
