Stored at 65/65 in humidor 2 months , when I cut it that when it started falling apart. What could be going on. The hydrometer was calibrated and rechecked. Other cigars are fine when smoked so far. Thanks

was this stored in cello ?

if so you are months from 65 %

a cigar at 70% would take more than 2 weeks to dry down in a 65% environment minus the cello.

in Vegas, outside,a cigar wrapper could dry out and crack in just a few minutes.

its a result of shocking the cigar. if stored cool and brought into very warm temps (exacerbated by being in the sunlight)) , like a 30*+ temp swing in a few minutes and if the cigar was a little moist and brought into a dry environment or if the cigar is dry and brought into a humid environment , the cigar is shocked by the fast movement of moisture into or out of the cigar. causes it to sometimes swell and crack or just fall apart.

I'll get that if I'm trying to massage a knot out of a cigar, or if I've hammered all hell out of it with a PerfecDraw as a last effort to get it to smoke.

Only cigar I've ever had just shred like that was from a box of horribly underfilled RyJ Short Churchills. I took a draw after lighting, re-lighting, re-lighting, heard a snap, and the wrapper just split 2/3rds of the way down the cigar. I chalk it up to that one being particular horrible among a world-class horrible box (not acquired here).

What is the age of the cigar? In what condition did it get to you? Perhaps the wrapper was fully dried and "died”...

It's April 19, got it at lcdh in havana, bought box of 25 ,5 in 5 smaller boxes.Jose piedra. The others  look fine but will try another tomorrow from same box.

The cut had nothing to do with it, it was v cut but wrapper came off so did a straight cut so it would smoke better

I don't know, it may remain a mystery!  The other suggestions sound plausible.

I've had it happen once or twice, didn't ever find out. I know sometime these things can be troubling.

Unless it happens often, maybe have fun with it and remove the wrapper and see how tast/flavor change?

Someone in the store dropped the cigar/box.  Placed it back where it was and said nothing.  Cracks too small for the human eye resulted.

How was the humidity outside? It's an extreme example but I've seen cigars do a Hulk Hogan like that when coming from a relatively dry humidor then lit and smoked in a very humid atmosphere.

It might be a combination of going into a humid environment, poor binder+too much tobacco in the bunching and naff construction etc

I've found it's usually a build up of lots of factors when something goes catastrophic like that

Humidity was normal for Las Vegas outside about 8%. Temperature was about 50

Try a dunk or quick pass through the water from the faucet foot first, avoiding the head. Shake dry, leave it sit for a few, then cut. That can help to solve my issues.

Where I am at the humidity can be very low, mid 30 % to 60%. Lightly moistening the wrapper helps keep it flexible.

What A difference A day makes. Used a suggestion and sprayed it down with some distilled water and let it sit for about 20 minutes and took it outside to about 12% humidity to smoke it. This stick sat in box next to yesterday's stick. Also did a straight cut not a v cut. I think the v cut on an iffy stick puts extra stress on the cap and wrapper  if blade mighg be so so

Well after I was done smoking this stick I took apart what was left and saw something white in the fill ,it was a piece of paper that I unfolded and has a number 43on it. I bought these at a lcdh in Havana.  Cigar tasted good . In the 1st pic you can see it on the left side near wrapper.IMG_20191101_130430.thumb.jpg.1f650f150dc48c297e1503470663f979.jpg

Yeah there it is. That's similar to what happens in Canada when I take a Cuban out of a 70 degree 65% environment to a 40-50 degree <15% environment. Cuban wrappers tend to explode.
