Good inexpensive lighter that works at high altitudes?

Living above 5000 ft (1524 meters) presents problems with lighters. I’m not one to spend a lot of cash on a cigar lighter. Any recommendations for cigar lighters that will work reliably at high altitudes and won’t cost an arm and a leg?

Do you have issues lighting torch lighters?

bought a quad jetline on eBay w a punch cutter built in for $17. I have also bought three packs of the knockoffs for the same money. All work great for me. they are functionally partially disposable and now it’s no big deal to leave one in the bag I take out for skeet/sporting clays  

Warming them up in my hands on a cold evening fixed any issues I have had. 

no demonstrable experience at altitude but very pleased w the lighters I have. If one ends up in a buddy’s pocket, no worries. 
 

to the extent there is variation at altitude it would seemingly be with the propane. To my knowledge they all come w similar pressure.

My first thought would be the time honored Zippo. Many don't care for the fuel used, but the only reason I stopped using mine was because I grew a little tired of the dancing flame (but never going out) in a wind. I'd think that if you want to use anything pressurized, you'll need to keep it full as much as possible.

I think the butane is what matters most for torch lighters.  If you get the Purofine High Performance butane it should work in any torch at altitude.

That is what i was talking about.....I've used it up to 8000 ft and it works well.

This may be heresy, and I live in normal altitude (middle Tennessee), but after not being able to locate my torch after a move, I had to settle for a soft flame bic. It unsurprisingly lit the cigar. Surprisingly, the half dozen or so I’ve smoked since then had far fewer burn issues than when I’d been using a 3 jet torch.

Maybe I can’t handle the power? I dunno. I’m sticking with soft flame for a while.

Thanks for the replies. I picked up a can of the Xikar high performance high altitude butane. Seems to be an improvement so far.

Not sure about high altitude but after having issues with my Xikar lighter which I still need to send back.   I purchased this two pack and gave one to my friend.   For the price it is an amazing lighter.   Its not super flashy but if in my bourbon and cigar stupor I leave it at the cigar bar I hope the new owner enjoys his/her new found lighter and I will not shed a tear.

and works better, and more consistently, than any expensive lighter I've owned in the past.

they just simply work. Why I pay 4x more for a lighter that needs to be coddled to work is beyond me. I wish I had realized this sooner, and saved some money.
