Popular Post teamrandr Posted October 27, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 27, 2019 New to me and one of the rarest pre embargo cigars out there. With the the super aged smokes it can be hit or miss no doubt. The RyJ Fancy Tales is a beautiful double perfecto and I would guess a 40 RG. It has a slight box press to it. This vitola is rare and not much info is available about it. The wrapper appears to have lightened a few shades of brown over the years the cello was damn near brown. one of the darkest I have ever seen. The cold aroma is old paper upon opening. After airing out for a few hours it has a pleasant Graham cracker aroma. Also a light tobacco aroma. The draw is nice just about perfect for my liking. Cold draw is Graham with an but of old tobacco! I put fire to it with a regular old Bic lighter. The opening draw was immediately Graham and a bit of marshmallow. It is giving me feelings of nostalgia. The smoke is light and also light bodied which can often be expected with super aged sticks. The draw is quite nice. The smoke has a super smooth retrohale. The Graham is toning down a bit as it progresses. Still a smooth light smoke very enjoyable. This will be a treat. The first 3rd is coming along so nice. Hard to believe really. A bit of a hot cocoa like flavor lingers. I am taking super slow small draws and retro most of them. Picking up a bit of body on it but still light. The smoke is so enjoyable. it has transitioned into a more chocolate profile less gram. There is hint of dark roast coffee going on. Again it is hard to believe this smoke is this old. 2/3 all mocha and coffee slight vanilla hint. The smoke is moving towards mild bodied. Still smooth and enjoyable. I can't help but think of all the stuff that has happened in the years this smoke has laid down. The 1950's were no doubt a glorious time for cigar smokers. Havana tobacco was readily available and even cheaper cigars of good quality were available. Anyways back to the cigar. 1/2 need to slow it down as I enter the final part. smoke has picked up an off putting leather taste. Still has the core of mocha but tobacco lingers as well. just slow it down small draws. Final 3rd we are rounding to home plate. the smoke is becoming more bodied. the Graham cracker is long gone. the full deep bitter dark roast with a touch of dark chocolate is dominant. As it got to the end the unsettling leather came back and was dominant. I nubbed it anyway because well why not. Overall I hate to even score this. It almost takes away from the fact it is still even a respectable smoke after 7 decades. I will just go ahead and rate it a 9/10 it was a very enjoyable experience but did have the leather I didn't enjoy so much. 17 2
99call Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 My all time desired vitola. Hats off to you in sourcing it. And great review. Just a great shape 1
Puros Y Vino Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Great review. Cool vitola. Vintage tobacco can be very unique and give the smoker a rare experience. if the cigar(s) has been stored properly. 1
