Popular Post MoeFOH Posted October 22, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 22, 2019 No doubt this thread exists in some form or another somewhere on here, but there's no harm in revisiting a topic like this - especially when I can't be bothered battling the "quirky" forum search function to find it. ? For me, it has to be Dark Side Of The Moon. It ticks all the boxes. Brilliantly innovative, a masterpiece from start to finish (and it's an album you want to listen to in its entirety every time, not cherry-pick from), perfectly balanced - lyrically and musically powerful. Spent more time in Billboard's top 100 than any other album. One of the highest selling ever. And today it's still often used by audiophiles to audition speakers. Time for another listen right now!! What's your pick? 5 2
TBird55 Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Led Zeppelin IV....loved Dark Side of the Moon, also. So much wonderful music 60's and 70's hard to pick the best. 4
WABOOM Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 My personal favorite is Pet Sounds. But Dark Side of the Moon is definitely #2, followed by Magical Mystery Tour, then probably Days Of Future Passed. 1
Ken Gargett Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 if we leave out collections, greatest hits, best of.., (which i'd probably pick for the desert island so i had "more" to listen to), i'd go 'darkness'. would accept 'born to run'. also love 'the rising'. non-bruce, 'desire' or perhaps 'blood on the tracks' from his bobness. but then again, desert island, i'm taking 'masterpieces'. 2
Popular Post SigloVI Posted October 22, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 22, 2019 Nirvana Nevermind 6
Bucky McSwensen Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Speaking in tongues by talking heads. I can listen to that on repeat anytime 3
NSXCIGAR Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Not sure I can rank them, but I would say Physical Graffiti or The Wall just because they're double albums. Runner up Zeppelin IV. 3
joey rockets Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 Exile on Main Street. Pet Sounds was chosen and I concur that some of the older Beach Boys is the music of California surfing and cars. 1
Wailbait Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 My first thought was Dark Side as well. Both for its greatness and for personal connections to the album. But since I can never imagine the world without the Beatles, I should say Revolver. 3
Popular Post Rrm7284 Posted October 23, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 23, 2019 Agree with all the above, but for me personally Pearl Jam Ten was the first album to grab ahold of me. Front to back, I still love listening to it. 5
Popular Post SmokyFontaine Posted October 23, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 23, 2019 Can't do one in the absolute division. I'd need to break it up in genres. Pearl Jam Ten, Wu-tang Clan: Enter the 36 Chambers, Amy Winehouse - Back to Black. 5 1

Nocoins Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Saw the topic, and my first thought was Dark Side as well. The documentaries about it in the last 10 or so years have made me appreciate it even more. There are some other albums of equal significance, but I like this one the best. 1
JohnS Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 The one album I listen to the most, ahead of The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, is their well-intentioned late 1966/early 1967 follow-up, SMiLE (yes, it is italicised like that). The reason the Beach Boys are so good on the ear during this golden period is because Pet Sounds is an ode to Bach and SMiLE was intended as an ode to Gershwin. The reason it was cancelled in mid-1967 was due to a number of factors, the main one being the technical difficulties involved in arranging music in parts and splicing bits together to form songs. So, for example, Good Vibtations took six months to make in different parts and then it was mixed and spliced together, imagine doing that with another 11 songs for an album. Eventually Brian Wilson released SMiLE as a solo artist in 2004 and in 2011 the Beach Boys finally released SMiLE usung modern technology to splice songs together (although some vocals were never originally completed). I think this album has had a big impact on me musically is due to its complex arrangements over many simple two-chord movements. I think I still continue to learn something from it every time I listen to it. 1 1
Mikeltee Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Picking ONE greatest album? Why not just ask us to pick our favorite kid? Lots of my favorites have been named. Going To California is one of my favorite songs. When I was a teen, I probably listened to Ten nonstop for 2 years straight. I probably went through a dozen cassettes of it. *Cassettes* That word is so old that spell check doesnt even know what it is. 1
Popular Post rguinn Posted October 23, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 23, 2019 Metallica - And Justice for All is up there for me. 6
TNT009 Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Prince- Purple Rain........ Band of Gypsys (Hendrix)- Live at the Filmore East and Marley- Legend were close contenders! 2 1
treberty Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Toss between Radiohead - O.K. Computer and Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother... I would be happy with either.
Popular Post anjimj Posted October 23, 2019 Popular Post Posted October 23, 2019 Guns n roses appetite for Destruction is a classic album in my book 5
Sir Diggamus Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Another vote for Dark Side of the Moon. I like the crowd here! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
