Cairo Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 Other codes shown for this box seem to be UGO--but it looks like UBO to me--thinking of that old Woody Allen movie where he walks up to a bank teller and announces: "I have a gub". ? 1 1

Be mindful, at any one time, one-quarter to one-third of all Habanos regular production is likely in hiatus. It's probably been a little time since El Pres has seen these in the warehouse. Let's take each one on a case-by-case scenario... La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No.4 - Similarly to the Diplomaticos No.2, this is the last regular production vitola in the marca. Like the Diplomaticos No.2, I've found production comes and goes, it comes out for a little while, it goes into hiatus for a little while. Although the LGC Medaille d'Or No.4 has been in a longer hiatus this time. There are no 2019 boxes above, for example. Again, like the Diplomaticos No.2, due to trademark reasons, Habanos S.A is highly unlikely to discontinue a marca. Partagas 8-9-8 - The last series of Partagas vitolas to be discontinued were in 2010 with the Serie du Connaisseur No.1, No.2 and No.3. Prior to this there were some deleted in 2006. Global brands don't tend to be discontinued, although recent history has thrown up some exception based on the vitola (for example, Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo du Prince, H.Upmann Petit Corona et al.). In the case of the Partagas 8-9-8, it's a dalia vitola (43 ring gauge x 170 mm or 6.7 inches). The only other regular production vitola with these dimensions is the Cohiba Siglo V. Dalia cigars are rolled less often than other easier-to-roll cigars (because it's a long and skinny and they're harder to roll correctly - keep that in mind). If you want to know how special the dalia size is, witness the impending Punch 8-9-8 release. Montecristo Especiales - I concur that the longer Especiales (38 ring gauge x 192 mm in length or 7.6 inches, the same dimensions as the Cohiba Lanceros and Trinidad Fundadores) has been rarely seen on 24:24 listings in the last 3 or 4 years. However, ever since Habanos S.A came into being in the 2000s there has never been a Cohiba or Montecristo-branded cigar discontinued. The last Montescristo cigar to be discontinued were the Montecristo No.6 and No.7 in 1998. Punch Double Corona - With only four Double Coronas left in regular production (Hoyo de Monterrey Double Corona, Partagas Lusitanias, Punch Double Coronas and Ramon Allones Gigantes) I would hate this cigar to be discontinued. Add onto that the culling the Punch marca has received in the last 10 to 15 years and you have to wonder what would be left of Punch as a marca if the Double Corona was gone. With the newly released Punch Short de Punch hardly seen since been released this year in 2019, I'd say Punch is a marca in general that is been released to market sporadically at the moment. Quai d'Orsay Coronas Claro - with the re-branding of Quai d'Orsay been such a success due to high demand for the newly released No. 50 and No.54, and in light of the upcoming 2019 Limited Edition Hermosos No.2-sized Senadores coming to market soon (hopefully), the flagship Coronas-sized cigar, the QD Coronas Claro is no doubt taking the back seat so that Habanos S.A can keep up with demand with the No.50 and No.54 at the moment. Plus, I hate to say it, but Coronas cigars (Montecristo No.3, Romeo y Julieta Cedros de Luxe No.2 and Quai d'Orsay Coronas Claro are the only Coronas cigars left in regular production) don't sell and the thinking at H.S.A, at the moment, is likely that the other vitolas need prioritising right now. 4 2

I have a horrible feeling everything is going to go the way of the 10 count format, and prices surging. I realise the likes of Monte Especial have historically been offered in 10 count. But not at 70% of the cost of a 25 count!!. The idea of 'special RE/LE' releases as an offering, seem to be seamlessly morphing into a standard production. Would there be a market out there that would buy 10 Monte Especial at grossly inflated prices if the 25s were discontinued??.......sadly I think there would. Aside from the stupidity of calling them 898, what really struck me......oh god this is the future!! 10 cigars for the price of 25. Why on earth would HSA continue to make Party 898, or Monty Especial in 25s, when they just pump the price of 10's?. I strongly feel as if the writing is on the wall. It would be really interesting to know how a 10 count LGC Tainos was priced at compared to a 25 LGC Med 2 back in the good old days?
