Popular Post Nino Posted September 29, 2019 Popular Post Posted September 29, 2019 Happy to meet Maritza Acuña again - a great roller from the H.Upmann factory. Here some background and a video link showing her rolling a 109 yesterday : http://flyingcigar.de/startseite/meeting-the-great-roller-maritza-acuna-again/ I have known Maritza now for 15 years and have met her frequently in Havana at the H.Upmann factory where she leads the 60 best Category 9 rollers of that factory. In fact she gave us in the Portmann group a class in rolling cigars at that factory back in 2007 … I have met her again a few times in Germany on tour but I thought that by now she was retired as she is in her early 70s … So it was a great pleasure to learn that she is once again on a rolling tour in Germany and she would stop at LCDH Kaiserslautern – just a 25 min. drive for me. I drove there and spent a few hours talking with her and watching her perfectly roll a beautiful cigar. Here is the video : I remember that back in 2007 we calculated that she had rolled about 2.5 million cigars during her career – she told me it was close or over the 3 million mark by now. Amazing. Happy to see her still going strong and doing what she loves. Nino 14 1
99call Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 This is the most diligent, loving rolling of a cigar I've ever seen. You can see all the years of experience. A bundle of these would be a real prize. Thanks for posting @nino truelly mesmerizing

If you watch carefully at 3:08 mins you will see she uses a piece of string/rubber band to hold the cigar together instead of glue - never have seen this before in any roller .... unique. 1
LLC Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 Great care she takes rolling that cigar but I wonder if she typically takes 8 minutes to roll one. Based on that 3m cigars would be 400,000 hours or 10,000 typical work weeks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

But she is on a tour, not on the run or in the factory and over 70 now, so she may take as long as she cares to IMHO. At least here she gets a monthly Cuban salary after rolling 3 cigars.

JY0 Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 Fantastic. Thanks for sharing Nino. It's the most enjoyable rolling I've seen, on video or in person.
guideright Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 The work of an artisan. Amazing to think of the smallest movements and pressure developed over the years, a real artist.
