HumidorJuan Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I had a thing happen when I was first properly getting into cigars, I had a PSD4, and its peppery edge made me crave a thick ribeye steak with a bottle of good red wine to boot. It stuck with me until finally, I ended up with that stick in my hand after a steak dinner and now I can't smoke anything besides that when I have a steak. its turned into a ritual. Whats that one meal where you know exactly what you'll be smoking after dinner? 1
Ken Gargett Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 personally, food and cigars do not do anything for me. the reverse. never once have i ever been tempted to fire up while eating or thanks to eating. and i do not hang around if others do. if i can i get away. rob used to do cigar dinners which were fun but we tended to put the smokes to one side when the meal arrived and we were there more for the smokes and company. i know others think differently. 2 1
BrightonCorgi Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I am before or after dinner for cigars as well. I like to wait about 30 minutes after eating before lighting up a cigar. That's not really a lot of time, but enough to clear the table and prepare the after dinner drinks like Madeira or Port Wine. If smoking and eating at the same time, I like it to be easy fare like cured meats, nuts, and cheese. Nothing I need a fork and knife for. 1

I love to have a cigar while having Chinese hotpot / Japanese yakiniku (BBQ) where tiny slices of meat are cooked in a pot of soup or on top of some flames with only a pair of chopsticks. Small pieces of meat + a 2h smoke is a fantastic way to spend the evening. 7

It really depends on the soup base of the hotpot. For clearer bases (simply corn, turnip), I do a mag 50, for Chinese herb base I like a RA gigantes. I'm not one for Sichuan spice, but I imagine you'd need something much spicier to pair with that. 1
HumidorJuan Posted September 4, 2019 Author Posted September 4, 2019 I had an 898 a few days ago that gave my mouth that low voltage hum that Sichuan pepper has

It’s funny because a cigar after a meal is such a satisfying thing and the satisfaction is most likely born from me feeling ghastly if I smoke on an empty stomach.
El Presidente Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 There is only one dessert that I cannot resist and that is an Italian sponge cake (drowned in rum and cream). All I need to follow is an espresso, a copa of good Pedro Ximinez and a HDM Des Dieux. Everytime. 1
ThePolskiOgorki Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 I can’t say that I have established any hard fast rule for meal x = cigar y. I do lean towards fuller body “dessert” flavours in an after supper smoke though. For me time is really the biggest factor dictating my cigar smoking choices. 1
