A Perth woman has taken her neighbours to the Supreme Court to try and stop them smoking, bouncing balls and barbecuing in their gardens.

Cilla Carden is vegan and she says she's sick of the smell of meat cooking next door.

"They've put it there so I can smell fish; all I can smell is fish. I can't enjoy my backyard," she told 9 News.

She says her neighbours are deliberately trying to upset her.

Cilla Carden is demanding he rneighbours stop smoking, bouncing balls and even cooking barbecues in the backyard.

"It's deliberate. That's what I told the courts, it's deliberate."

She's also up in arms about cigarette smoke wafting into her garden, and the sound of children playing basketball next door.

"It's been devastating. It's been turmoil, it's been unrest, I haven't been able to sleep," she said.

One neighbour showed 9 News he has removed his barbecue and told his children to stop playing basketball in an effort to keep the peace.

The Supreme Court Judge and the State Administrative Tribunal have dismissed Carden's case. Her request to appeal has also been denied.

But Carden says she won't give up, and will return to court soon.

For some odd reason, my neighbour always hangs their washing on the line about 10 minutes after I start barbecuing.

This lady undoubtedly sounds like she's in the wrong, but as I have neighbours who are totally feral, I do have a degree of sympathy.

Our neighbours basically detest their kids, don't want to spend any time with them, so the shut them in the back yard all day, constantly call (even the youngest) "f-ing little c-bombs",  and the toddlers return the abuse is kind, Indeed I would suggest 80% of the vocabulary they've developed, is hardcore swearing. They scream all day, throw half eaten food into both neighbours gardens etc etc.

Again the lady in the news is obviously bananas, but I would suggest there is a huge percentage of bad parents out there, who seem to think the raising of the rug rats is a combined effort for neighbours, and the general public.    "NO!.........   You had them.....you look after them!:, is my thinking.

fair point but i would think, without knowing specifics, that building a basketball hoop for your kids and having backyard bbqs does suggest at least a modicum of an attempt to provide for the kids.

also, bbq'ing suggests that they may be a family who fishes and that is never a bad thing.

Agreed.

Put on an open Suburban under 12 weekend free throw championship in the backyard complete with rotisserie lamb on the BBQ where the lamb comes from the petting zoo hired for the weekend. Go through each of the animals. Open air cigar lounge for the fathers.

That's only when I bring out the inflatable pool.

I'm interested to hear from all the parents on the forum.   Obviously kids playing outside, and BBQing is just normal wholesome life (and the lady in the court case is a nut job), but what of bad parenting?.   Is it taboo in Aussie, US, etc to say to bad parents "any danger!?".

In the UK, it all seems very confusing, the news is full of over-coddling, over cautious, over concerned sort of emotional blackmailing,  but the actual parenting you see from people in public seems to be very "i cant be bothered" "little timmy, can do whatever he wants".

I'm taking it as a given that everyone on FOH will be great parents,  A question to you, do crappy parents and their kids annoy you?  do you ever say anything? or is it taboo.

If they were doing anything illegal I'd understand being upset.

Virtually every vegan I know is borderline militant in their views and if you don't conform with their viewpoints issues arise.

That's a ludicrous mindset.  Honestly I think not eating meat, cheese and so on is equally ludicrous.  No neighbor gets to dictate what or when I grill.  Or what I smoke on my deck.

My wife accidentally bought vegan chocolate from Zabar’s yesterday.

The package explained that the chocolate was gluten, soy, nut and dairy free, but did not display the text “unsuitable for carnivores” anywhere.

The emotional distress and psychological damage of the last 14 hours has been devastating.

Someone must compensate us for this outrage.

I am now sitting in my lawyer’s waiting room.

I went to a B&B once a few years back.  They served what appeared to be a pretty nice breakfast, bagels, real lox, sliced meats, but decided on putting out only vegan cream cheese with no warnings.

I still cant figure out why.  I mean they had plenty of animal products, but vegan cream cheese?

I don't think I could ever stay there again.

She'd hate my neighborhood.  It's mostly Brazilian around here and everyone has Brazilian BBQ's going in their yards.  Smell like grilled meat in every direction.  Sometimes I can't stand it as it makes me friggin' hungry!

If you don't like kids, don't move to a family neighborhood...  She does sound like a nutcase.

*Are WE alone in the fact that our only problem with BB-Q-ing in our OWN back yard is not having enough to go around when the aroma attracts hungry eyes and drooling mouths???  Look, lady, get a GRIP. I'll admit I TRIED to become vegetarian back in the early '70's with the health food craze hitting the country during that time. And I didn't need any outside stimulus of others' meat and food preparation to blame for discouragement and to dissuade me from my path...I JUST DIDN'T MAKE IT! I COULDN'T HOLD OUT!  That was on my own and I own up to it- I WANT MOOING, CLUCKING, BAAA-BAAA-ing BODIES ON MY PLATE!!! GRRRR - RRRR-RRR :drool::hungry: *If she is really and truly Vegan (Old Indian name for "Bad Hunter") she should be IMMUNE to the temptation of all that wonderful - uh I mean - grilling meat going on next door - AND be a nice neighbor and wish them a great day and an enjoyable dinner. I don't drink alcohol anymore. I used to in my younger days and while in the military. Started becoming a little too habit forming. So I quit. But what am I gonna look like demanding everybody around me quit too!!? I can be around them all day and all night - and everybody enjoy...in their own way.

What worries me most is that she, and people like her, actually BELIEVE they have a point.  They want to be able to say and do whatever they wish, but become upset and militant when someone voices an opinion different from theirs; or conducts their lives differently.  It’s nigh on insanity, and it’s becoming the norm!

So many judgements,  without all the details.

shlomo, there have been numerous detailed reports out here. rob posted one but he could have posted half a dozen others.

but remember that the courts did have all the details. and they made the judgement. and then, still with all the details, she was knocked back for an appeal.

I don't have kids (still haven't decided if I want to).  The majority of people who live on my street are families, and are great, relatively quiet, and brilliant for the neighbourhood.    That said bad parents, and annoying kids do exist (not in the case being discussed),    but where shitty parents do exist, the fallback situation for people without kids, shouldn't have to be "just suck it up".    Whether we have kids or not, we all have a responsibility to show our neighbours a bit of consideration.

I read today where they are gathering for a BBQ at his place with a supposed 3000 participants showing up.

Think her nostrils were ruined before?  Wait till that cloud engulfs her entire house. ?
