Cheapest Cigar Cutters....that are worth picking up?

There is a roadtest below on some cigar scissors for $9.  it is actually a good article. 

My question to you is what are the cheapest cigar cutters available that perform way above their price?

People rave about the Cuban Crafters perfect cutter. Can be had for $20usd - not super cheap, but cheaper than Xikar, etc. A golfing buddy has one and it’s pretty easy to use. I plan on picking one up as I don’t have a nice guillotine.

The cheap single blade Habanos cutters that they include in the gift bags at the Festival have always worked fine for me. You have to be more careful with them than a fancier, sharper, dual blade. But they do the job.

The cheapest, most effective cigar cutter I’ve come across is a little cigar punch keychain for 5$ Canadian. I don’t think I’d ever use the punch with my V cut sitting next to me, but in a pinch, or when I’m away from my kit this little thing has been there for me.

I was thinking about doing some that used utility blades as replaceable blades. Always seemed a bit of a shame that so much plastic and metal is disposable. All the utility blades I found were covered in adhesive/grime and I wasn't quite up to spending a weekend and $20 tediously examining and cleaning them. Double-edge razors were too flimsy, too.

If anyone has any recs on some nice, sturdy, replaceable blades I'd love to hear it! It would be a lot of fun to make the cutters.

I think you are probably right. Punches seem to be the best performance vs price.

I gave @JohnS my freebie cutter from the Partagas festival. He is quite happy with the quality of this throw-away cutter.... and now I'm beginning to think I shouldn't have thrown it away.

I bought a bunch of these, around Aus$4 each on eBay. They work well and you just bin it when it gets blunt and it's no drama if you lose it

~$6USD double guillotine on amazon. One tends to last a couple years. ~$10 for a decent punch for thin gauges.

Firebird V Cutter from Colibri. Can be had for around £8 (~$10) and it cuts really well. I have one clipped on my keys. I tend to use it for most cigars now.

I have all sorts, but if cost is an issue just grow your nails, wet the end a little and pinch out a hole in the cap.  Works a treat.

I've had this dual v-cut and regular cut cutter from Amazon for a few weeks now and it does a great job making a v-cut. Which I've now come to prefer over a punch or straight cut.

Less than $3!

Yup, I always pick up 10-15 while in Havana to pass out to friends. Their like $1 each.

The test will be how long it lasts. I bought a few vertigo double blade cutters very cheap from an auction site a while ago. For a few months I thought they were great. Kept one in the garage, one at the office, one in the car. Then they all just started ripping caps and cracking wrappers/binders every other cigar. Ruined a few good sticks. I tossed all of them.  I assume they just went dull.

Agreed, I have a couple Palio that were about $15 and have been good. 

The Colibri serrated cutter I paid $30 for is worth every penny and is now my go-to every time.

I bought a cheap small punch a few years ago. I don't use it too often but it never fails me when I do. It's also great because it looks like a key ring and I've never had an issue when travelling with it on my keys!

Can't beat these IMO.  I'm a V notch kinda guy also.  I'm not a cutter swapper either.  I don't care for another mans siliva on the end of my stick so they are cheap enough to hand out and just say "keep it"

Honestly I switched to box knives/carton cutters with a sharp blade a few years ago and never looked back. Always had one on me for work and realized they can perfectly slice through a standard triple cap without issue. Cutting a little circular line around the cap gives you perfect control over the cut and a nicely rolled cigar has a perfect “dimple” underneath the cap that makes for an excellent draw IMHO. They won’t always work on a torpedo as you have to actually cut through some bunched tobacco and the method required can start the wrapper unraveling but I’ve never been a big torpedo kinda guy anyway.

 

Can’t beat the price at $6USD for a pack of twelve at the local hardware store either! ?

I bought this 3 pack a month ago for $11 USD and they are decent quality for the price.  They needed a little oil to start off but they all have been cutting clean.  I haven't tried them with anything larger than 52 ring yet.
