ARVET7 Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 I'm currently in the market for an electric humidor/wineador/cooler. Not sure what I should go with, or stay away from. Is a humidor specifically for cigars the best, or is a wine cooler basically the same thing just called something different? What is your go to brand, for what reason(s), or is there certain models/brand(s) to stay away from? I'm fairly new to all of this, so all opinions and advice are greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance friends! Cheers?
wineguy Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 I would use the search function. There are numerous threads on this topic. Welcome to FOH!
slowsmoke Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 There are a lot of mixed reviews on wineadors, and many threads on it. There isn't much difference between standard thermoelectric wine fridges and the "cigar" models, other than they come with cedar shelves/drawers, and some of the Newair cigar models allow you to run a higher temp like 70 DF. Wineadors are not set-and-forget. They can require attention, sort of like a fish tank, and many people end up modifying or customizing them. Unless you have some extreme temps in your house, a normal humidor or cabinet (or even a tupperware/cooler) will generally be much easier to maintain steady RH. That said, wineadors are not impossible, I run three of them and I am generally happy with them. 1
alloy Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 If you go to the Humidor Tutorial section. It should answer all your questions.
Brian24 Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 I use a wine fridge but do not have it plugged in. I’ve never had issues with extreme temp fluctuation. Also, others have written there is a risk for condensation build up which could ruin your haul. It does seem to hold humidity very well. Three boveda packs will last 6 months. Essentially it is just an air tight box. All in all. Unless you really want to monitor and fuss long term, myself and what seems to be the board consensus is keep it simple. Find something air tight. Put it in a place that doesn’t fluctuate too much. Add boveda or other moisture packs that won’t result in a watery mess. This way you can spend more time smoking and less time fussing. My 2 cents. 1
rk1900 Posted July 23, 2019 Posted July 23, 2019 Been there done that. Freezador google it. If you have the space it's a better lasting solution.
Hadroxity Posted July 24, 2019 Posted July 24, 2019 I went with a Newair CC-300, no problems with it as of yet!
