We've got a battle of Legendary Albums this week... Two of the biggest selling rock albums of all-time go up the flag poll... You know the drill: read the question, vote on the poll, elaborate in the thread if you so desire. Voting participants go into the draw for an El Pres sampler! - Drawn next Wednesday (Aus local time). :spotlight:

All about 50/50...

50/50 is a weekly poll where we find out whether or not some serious bones of contention questions can be finally be buried or will instead remain above ground as a fleshy 50/50 debate... you know, such weighty issues as these...

If given no other option:

are you a Cohiba or Monte person?

do you prefer Hunnicutt or Trapper in M*A*S*H?

Connery or Moore as Bond?

Apple or PC?

Smooth or Crunchy peanut butter?

do you prefer wearing men's or women's underwear?

 Sacrificing chickens or virgins?

...that sort of standard fare.

Vote in the poll and further bolster your standpoint in the thread below if you wish. Poll Votes are public and there's a couple of sticks up for grabs for participants.

Also, PM me Polls that you'd like me to conduct on 50/50 and there'll be a prize for those we decide to use.

That's a tough one.  Honestly if I were to take one Floyd album to the deserted island it would be "Wish You Were Here", but I still voted for Dark Side just by a nose.

Had to be Dark side for me. Although I actually prefer The Wall by Pink Floyd.

And Steve, just for conversation's sake, I think I might have put Mac against Tull rather than Floyd. I mean, would one put Priest against The Darkness?

No! You'd put Priest with Iron Maiden. I guess one might put Tull against Metallica... :lol3:

For me Pink Floyd DSOTM. It was such a seminal album in so many ways at the time of release. I think it still holds record for years in charts ( -900 weeks / 45 million copies.)  Clare Torry’s solo vocals on Great Gig In The Sky is still an incredible performance to date. I read a story she ran out of the studio in tears because she thought she flubbed it up. It was completely improvised, just a vocalization over that beautiful piano outro. One of the most soulful vocals I’ve ever heard.

With all that said, Rumors is also a fantastic album. Great musicians, recording, vocals. And Stevie Nicks for Pete’s sake. She is bloody crackers. I have tremendous respect for both bands.

This ain’t no Coke or Pepsi poll...

Rumors is well balanced well put together album I feel DSOTM and Pink Floyd are a little overrated like that hyped RE that just disappointed.

Gotta be Rumours! Come on! How can you not love "Dreams", "Go Your Own Way", "Don't Stop", "Songbird", or "You Make Lovin' Fun". Stevie Nicks is awesome.

I only like one or two songs from Pink Floyd, "Brick in the Wall", being the main one.

I grew up with both being played in my house by my parents, but from beginning to end I still listen to the Rumors album.

So so hard.

DSoTM is a classic album, cutting edge at the time and it just flows from start to finish. So relaxing and it is one of my go to albums. Co incidently everyone should also check out Moon8 which is DSoTM redone in SNES sounds. Worth a diversion.

Rumours is again an amazing album. It was the pinnacle of Fleetwood. Easy listening and again another to to album. Full of great classic stand alone songs.

I cannot pick. I will not pick. This choice is like picking your favourite child. Indeed it's worse. Let's be honest we all have our favourite child. The first one, the good one. The mummy or daddy's boy. But these two albums have been so good to me over the years  I cannot and will not choose.

A classic piece of music without one wrong note or one wrong structure or melody anywhere. It us perfect from start to finish.

That being said check out this cover of great gig in the sky https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DInOpOHfSt40&ved=2ahUKEwi3ifLdxb3jAhUMJ8AKHQhsDjIQwqsBMAJ6BAgDEAw&usg=AOvVaw2gHIKuncy7BgozS6l5BJdv

I would play PF any day over FM if it was just me listening. I saw Roger Waters live in Miami about 2 years ago, fantastic! I have about 7 or 8 PF albums, only 1 or 2 FM, and that is about the ratio of listening time I prefer between these two iconic bands.

Much, much tougher this one! Very hard to choose. Two iconic albums by two great bands at their respective peaks. But Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon gets my vote here. No good reasons, only subjective ones. How many times I have listened to each (many times for both but probably more for DSOTM), how cutting edge the material was when it was released, and the simple fact that I could listen to David Gilmour on guitar all day.
