Popular Post HumidorJuan
Misplaced box code 2018 FOH 24/24 purchase Look at that, my FOH Bolivar petit Coronas arrive in the mail a few days ago and voila it’s also our weekend review feature. I wanted to rest it for a month before trying my very first Boli but how can I pass the review up? I may have lit it unevenly and I got some un-evenness right from the start and had a curious ash situation arise* but regardless here’s how it went: Part 1: A few sips of toasty tobacco flavour right off the bat as I wait and wonder what Boli is all about and then voila! I’m nibbling on spicy dark chocolate and drinking coffee with a healthy amount of whole cream in there. A Syrupy sugar in the background that’s almost canned peaches. It’s now downright confectionary. The kind of mouthful of chocolate you know is excessive, as your family sleeps upstairs, but your still looking over your shoulder as you shovel the sweets into your face. Maybe raisins and dates. Brown sugar. It’s spicy and tingly like I’m sucking on a cinnamon stick . The colour of the wrap has such a rich brown sheen it’s like the cigar has a glow to it. Absolutely Stunning looking stick that stands out in the humi. I can’t figure out if I want this with coffee, dessert, scotch or a nice thick and fluffy stout beer and as the first third comes to an end, sugary syrupy fruit is back to finish off the first third. Part 2: To start the second third I had a huge gulp of good black coffee and came back to cinnamon and clove and the caremelization good sourdough bread crust can get. The second hand smoke is all a lovely Christmas spice blend, and dates are back in a big way and if I could bake with the way the second hand smoke smells I’d go toe to toe with my wife’s pie making. Fruit cake big time. But not the fruitcake you leave in the cupboard for a whole season before you find it and are astonished it’s not rotten. The kind of fruitcake that you find yourself eating, like the chocolate, sneakily in the middle of the night after too much scotch. Oops almost forgot to take a photo. I’ve had a lopsided burn for the whole time but I don’t care, I’m in flavourtown. The end of the second part it’s getting nutty. Like buttery walnuts with that thin brown deliciously bitter walnut skin still on it. Part 3: The flavours are intensifying quickly as they do in the final act, and just like my other reviews, I always get eager when reviewing and I smoke a stick too quickly. I’m working through some self inflicted, flavour destroying acridness from smoking it too eagerly. My bad. But for me the third part was all about rustic caramelized bread crust and cinnamon and I know now when I’ll be enjoying one of only the other two petit coronas left in the humi. During Christmas time. After the best meal of the year, that sneaky moment when the dishes are clattering in the kitchen and the fathers and uncles, warmed with a full belly, strong drink in hand, sneak out to the garage for a smoke. And when one of the teenage nephews peaks out and glimpses how grown men socialize, they are going to smell that Bolivar and I’m gonna tell him to split, come back when you’re older, and I may just save that last petit corona for him to enjoy one day. *Ash is porous and has a lot of these dots. I’ve read a few things about these dots. Ive heard it’s : the tooth marks from the wrap (and that Boli is nice and toothy isn’t it) the sign of a high magnesium content in the soil used to grow the tobacco And I notice a hole in the ash. Is that a sign of it being underfilled?
slowsmoke
Great review, throughly enjoyed reading it. Of all the Boli, the PC has generally been the least impressive to me, but I have had plenty of good ones, and now you've got me wanting one of yours!

But I have a box of Coronas junior that are perfection right now. I’ve been gushing about them so much I think the forum is probably sick of hearing it by now ?
topdiesel
Nice review...Yes, I have also heard that the dots are mineral deposits and yes, that one is toothy. Whatever the explanation, cigars with the little dots extremely tasty.
