Reco! At 1:14

I’m going to be in Tucson for a few days this week. Will have a bunch of time on my hands and I’ve never been there. (Which is a perfectly good reason for me to go anywhere once.) Haven’t spent any time looking things up other than the hills and mountains around the city. I have no idea what I want to do or what I’m going to do. Looking for great food, hole in the wall type places that I would never forget, experiences I should have, and places I should go see.

Whatcha got FOH?

Thx!

Take a drive up Mt Lemon. Drive through East Saguaro national park. If you have 3-4 Hrs go the Pima air and space museum.  If you're interest in aircraft you can spend hours there. Can also go on a tour of the air force boneyard from the museum.

Boca Tacos is really good, it's downtown. Tombstone isn't a terribly far drive. Kartchner caverns is also not a very far drive and is spectacular. Desert museum is pretty cool

I used to travel to the area frequently for work over a 15 year span. Small town of Bisbee is fairly near Tombstone and is pretty cool. It’s a mining town on the side of the mountain next to the worlds largest, now abandoned copper mine. You go into the bar and the bathroom is chiseled out of the granite face of the mountain, the plumbing is attached to the rock with straps. Pretty unique.

I don’t have the link but I think it was The NY Times that had a nice article a few months back on Tucson. If you can’t  find it message me and I will spend some time to find it and get it to you.

My wife had a conference there a few years ago so I tagged along.  I drove to Tombstone and back in a day with no problem,  Touristy, but cool.  Saguaro National Park was beautiful.  There was a restaurant, called Maria Bonita I believe, that was really good.  No idea if it's still there though.  Have a great trip!

Thank you very kindly gentlemen looks like tombstone and a few little stops in between is definitely a must. Perhaps I can spot Kurt Russell, Sam Elliot and Val Kilmer sitting in a former saloon, now turned coffee shop, talking about the good ole days...

In Bisbee the Queens Mine is a tour to do if you like that type of thing.  You get to ride on an actual mine people mover and they take back in so you get a sense of what it was like to work underground in primitive conditions.  Kartchner Caverns is also very cool for underground excitement.  The entire story on how they were discovered is pretty good.  It's very professionally done in every way to keep the eco system intact as you experience a "livivg" cave.

Tombstone is ok....tourist trap environment..but is not out of the way if you're going to Bisbee.  Have to at least stop in at Big Kates and belly up for a sarsparilla rootbeer! ;)

If you like foo foo coffee and Hookahs ...down on the end, by the university on the street that has the trolly (can't remember the street name but easy to find if you ask around) you can find plenty of shopping and such for a half day experience.  Lot's college kids hanging thru out the area and most know the town very well if you ask around.

Enjoy your stay in AZ.  You're hitting it at a perfect time for the weather situation. ?

Gus Balon's is a great classic American grill.  Kartchner cavern's state park is a fun day trip.  Call in advance for that.

Old Tucson?

Old tucson is cool, bisbee breakfast club is fantastic but be prepared for them to be busy same with poco y moms, both delicious but popular. El guero is definitely a tucson original so is egees for like a frozen drink(non-alcoholic). As mentioned by someone else pima air and space is nice.

Also if you go to tombstone, you might as well go to bisbee since they are right next to each other. Bisbee is definitely original
