ayepatz Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 Am I biased, or was that one of the most extraordinary games of rugby of all time? 2

You are biased, but so am I -- a bloody amazing match! Excellent display of skills, beautiful tries from both sides! And England were lucky to get this result -- that shoulder charge by Farrell should have resulted in a yellow card and I doubt that one man down they could have forced the draw.

Agreed, on all counts. Especially as this was a generally well-plaid match with good discipline on both sides and few penalties. Too, the ref was generally not bad and let the game flow, so much so that I rewound the moment several times just to make sure.

England 'in game intelligence' is the worst in world rugby. I bit like mesmerising a 'first contact' amazonian tribe with a pocket watch.......if you alter the game plan in any way during the game, Englands performs a collective brain fart, that turns Twickenham into a stinky chernobyl-like hinterland. My all time favourite is James Haskell asking the ref for help to understand the breakdown.....something he should know like the back of his hand.
99call Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 Has anybody notice "Eddie's eyebrow rageometer". with his increased levels of internal toxic turmoil, the left eyebrow seems to cut adrift and travel up to his failing hair line. 2

They talk about "momentum" being more important in League broadcasts all the time. Not sure how to explain why or how it happens but there's no doubt that teams who consistently halt another team's momentum and then go on a run of their own are the most successful.

Before this tour, it always seemed a non starter conversation that NZ rugby was leading the way. Watching super rugby these days, the spectre (aka tries) is everything, but the defence and place kicking are woeful. Throughout the last Lions tour the last two tests, and regional games proved that modern northern hemisphere rugby can choke the NZ game to death. Claustrophobic defence, married with accuracy in the set piece/place kicking, can override the super rugby style.

As with boxing, a mix of styles always makes for the best spectacle. Im hoping the Saffers continue to improve, as I have a feeling if they don't, the next series might be a cake walk.
