Hello all,

I've seen threads about what current cigars are similar to the old cuban Davidoffs but none about dunhill. Has anyone smoked any recently and found any similarities to current production stuff? I definitely dream of being able to smoke a cabinetta one day but I'm sure they'll be long gone by then. Thanks!

Good question.  No clue about this myself.  I did read a rumor way back that when Dunhill ceased production in Cuba, unboxed cigars were directed into other marcas. The one I heard about was the Cabinettas found their way into R&J Exhibition No 4's 50 cabs (despite the slight difference in RG and overall length).  The box codes would have been 1991/92.  This apparently lead to a "run" on the stock by those "in the know".  It makes for a good story, but I know of no one who could give an informed opinion on this.

Nothing currently produced is even vaguely reminiscent of the old Dunhills, OR Davidoffs. They aren’t using the same tobacco, and the blends are not nearly as strong. JMO tho :)

Agreed.  Davidoffs and Dunhills, but especially the Dunhills, were in a class of their own.  Dunhill Cabinetta was arguably the best regular production cigar ever made.  There are some phenomenal production cigars from every year, and some may be “as good” as some of the Davidoffs and Dunhills, but not similar.

I don't mean to thread hijack, but on the topic of vintage, I was wondering if there are specific vintage cigars that are within the range of 25-50 gbp that are likely available in the well known shops in London. I would go myself but I won't be back until May and my fiancé is headed home on Sunday for a week and has offered to pop in for me. (keeper)

I was in London last June,  there are plenty of vintage cigars available in that price range but not the Dunhills or Davidoffs.  My favorite 2 that fit your price were some 2001 HUpmann Monarchs from the Davidoff store on St James Street and 2002 HUpmann No2 from Sauters Cigars.  Not sure if they sold singles of the Dunhill or Davidoffs ( I didn't ask) but a couple of the shops had a few boxes of them priced 2500-6000 gbp.
