Dog At The Gym?!?

Completely random, but looking for other's opinions.  While at the gym this morning some dude had his dog with him.  First thing I assume is service dog.  Upon further inspection, it was a large female pitbull with a spiked collar. Not your typical service breed and nothing to suggest it was indeed a service animal. Extremely well behaved dog, I was very impressed. But that's not the issue.  I find this to be rather improper and unsanitary.   What's your opinion?

I agree.  There is a limit to exactly when and where we should be able to bring our pets and I feel this crosses the line.  Plus not everyone is a dog person and some have allergies.  

Service animals are an exception.

drives me nuts...some dude had his pitbull in Costco with him the other night...thing was barking and irritated...had to pick up my 4 year old son and carry him to make sure the thing wasnt going to go after him...so many idiots in the world and enablers that allow them to run roughshod.

Seems fairly ridiculous to take your dog to the gym, so many variables as to if it would upset me or not. Costco would drive me crazy, I see people take them to the hospital all the time and that drives me crazy

Dogs/Animals shouldn't be anywhere in a business unless the owner invites them in.

No dogs, no kids, no phones / selfies. Rack all your iron. Please don't use benches you're not using as clothes racks. Please stand away from barbell / dumbbell racks during your set, so everyone else can have access too. Chatting better done off the gym floor....

The owner of my gym has hit 2 pitbulls in the gym all the time.  I am a dog lover and it doesnt bother me at all.  I love seeing the dogs as they brighten up my day.  During the class time the dogs are not on the gym floor, so they dont get in the way.  They are extremely friendly and great with people also.

madness as a business owner i would think. 

1. The lovely lady on the lat machine has been a member for 5 years. I allow a mate of mine to bring his dog in.  The lady has an allergy attack. 

I am sued for a couple of hundred thousand. 

2. new dog today. there are now 6 in the gym this morning. hang on, the terrier is trying to hump the pit bull. Shit, the pit bull just ate the terrier. Both gym members now punching it out.

All of a sudden owning a gym seems a lot harder than being in the tobacco game

Look, guys have tried to pick up girls at the gym with little success. First they tried lifting weights or flexing, but injuries and blown blood vessels weren't attractive, nor was browning yourself when you over-exerted. Then there was the aerobics craze, but girls thought all the guys in spandex were gay, and friendzoned them immediately. Next, men tried just standing around the gym, making it seem they were fit. Once again, the girls caught on real quick and assumed they were all scrubs. So now we have come to bring your puppy into the gym, and the girls will all think you're the fit, sensitive man.... up until the dog bites someone or takes a dump on the treadmill.

No animals in the gym, if it’s the gym owners animal is a different story, due to the fact you could have not signed up knowing there is an animal on site. Kids are ok with me.....service animal of course, but someone’s pet? No

How is this worse than bringing a dog on a plane? Or a minihorse, or snake? When pressured my guess is that this dog is another "emotional support" animal, because that's a real thing now. It got so bad on planes here that the airlines had to start requiring a doctors note at booking to confirm your need for the "support animal." People obviously lost their shit, whined about "discrimination, Blah blah blah. Don't forget guys, everybody is special!

I'm ok with that. There are a few businesses I frequent where people have their pets behind the counter or walking around the shop, your business is your business. I didn't really think about it, but Rob's right, you do expose yourself to potential legal issues, but we can argue that's more of a societal issue that anything. Breweries here in Colorado have nearly a 1:1 ratio of dogs to humans and I'm fine with that too, if they are well behaved. That's rarely the case though.

I don't have a problem allowing well behaved dogs to the mall or stores.    Gym is not a good setting to bring a dog; too much potential for injury of a member or the pet.

I'm a dog person. I prefer dogs to people. I'd rather workout in a gym full of dogs than a gym full of people.

As a business owner, no.  Liability is too great. 

As a customer,  dont mind in the slightest.

Thanks everyone.  Many of y'all have a great sense of humor!  I did file a complaint.  Ironically, @El Presidente, I cited legal considerations, prior to viewing your post.  I am a business owner as well and I immediately considered and cited liability issues.

I have a very well trained dog, whom I love dearly, but would never consider taking her to the gym for the hygiene and safety aspects.  And "emotional support animals," ...Oy vey ?  

If you feel the need to take an animal to the gym for emotional support, I think it is time to go speak with someone.  There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with seeking professional assistance.  Society has erroneously applied a stigma to mental health.
