captain Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 I’m curious as to what everyone uses for a travel case? I’m considering a peter James, a project carbon (Projectcarbon.us) or on the much lower end a smok’n gear (https://www.smokngear.com/collections/all) I’m really looking for something that can hold all the goodies as well..sticks, cutter, lighter, etc. anyone have ave any experience with any of them? What are you currently using? Bonus brownie points for a pic too. cheers 1
Popular Post fabes Posted January 22, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 22, 2019 I use Cigar Caddy cases. Utilitarian for sure, but at this point it’s all I want in a travel case. I use a 5ct & 10ct depending on situation. 10ct has two layers so you can put cutter/lighter apart from cigars. Depending on what size cigars you smoke you can definitely stuff more in them as the foam accommodates a bit of wiggle room. I take mine camping, business trips and to the local lounge. Very happy with both. I prefer them over a fancier leather case because I can stuff in a backpack or duffel and not worry about any damage. Would personally rather have nice cigars than a nice travel case. Different strokes for different folks of course. 8
anjimj Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 I use Xikar travel cases. I have a 5ct, 10ct and 15 ct. Stick a boveda bag if I am going for longer than a week. Work great and better than leather 3 fingers since I think the leather can affect the taste if in there for a long time. 2
VRATJV07 Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 I have a xikar travel case. Use it with a boveda pack and it works great. It can hold up to 18 to 25 cigars. Inside has foam padding to protect the cigars. Outside is made of a very hard plastic. It doesn't impose any type of smell from the foam or plastic that effects the taste of the cigars. Also very budget friendly compared to leather cases. Only thing is it doesn't have designated spaces for accessories. 1
houdini Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Cigar Caddys. I have every size. Anything else is just a fashion statement honestly. These things are EVERYTHING-PROOF. 2
NorCalAaron Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 I love my Peter James case also, I use a few tubos for short term storage and a little added protection. It's great being able store all my accessories with a few smokes. If I need more than 5 smokes the PJ case will hold, I'll opt for a hard case which will hold 10 smokes or my small pelican case for extended travel. I was gifted a small PC 3 finger case and do not use it due to the pungent smell the case has, haven't seen or held the larger PC case or know if they have the same issue.

Despite my penchant for the finer things in life, I must confess that I prefer to use small, sturdy yet inexpensive cigar cases, as I would not care if I lost them and they fit in my pocket. I’ve been using a Xikar tube for singles and a Craftmen’s Bench 2-finger hard-sided carrying case for years.

Never had any issues of it getting stolen. Now watch it get stolen after I post this... 1 2

KnightsAnole Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Fashionable? I don’t really look at it like that. At least anymore than I look at those plastic travel cases as being fashionable Tupperware. It is a high quality, functional cigar accessory that I use everyday. To the OP, If you go this route, I don’t think you’d be disappointed.

Derboesekoenig Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 They have sales every so often where they cut $50 off.
krish the fish Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I have a Dunhill terracotta leather travel humidor I picked up in London a few years ago as well as my (second, lost the first and my wonderful wife got me a replacement as a gift last year) Rimowa travel humidor, but I tend to use a simple Pelican case more often than not as my travel humidor. If I'm drinking I don't have to worry about scratching it like the aluminum Rimowa or leather Dunhill, and I can fit a fair amount of cigars plus a cutter and lighter in there.
KGM Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I've got a 5 and a 40 cigar caddy but have been wanting either a PJ or PC to replace the 5. I'm a cheap bastard though and have trouble justifying.
captain Posted January 23, 2019 Author Posted January 23, 2019 Great replies everyone thank you. Anyone stick a Boveda Pack in the pj case? I’m leaning towards the pj....

Lotusguy Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I was pining for a Rimowa travel humidor as a perceived upgrade to my ugly Xikar plastic box. Finally picked one up in Germany and turned around and sold it within a week - looked cool, but way too heavy and bulky and the cigars were tumbling around inside when it wasn’t completely full with thicker RG sticks. What a disappointment.
TNT009 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 My PJ case, even hold a box of cigars and gas refill! 4

Pelican 1060 Micro for $20 on Amazon, cheap, bulletproof, holds a bunch of sticks.
Popular Post cfc1016 Posted January 23, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 23, 2019 Cigar caddy all the way. Utilitarian function is of far greater value to me than flash. Small canvas tote for my equipment. Full kit: "50 ct" cigar caddy; "5ct" cigar caddy; canvas tote - The Big Boy: This is my trusty "50 ct". I put this in quotes because the count is a bit generous. I've had this for almost 20 years. It's survived numerous plane rides and road trips and kept the contents intact 100% of the time. It's from long before Pelican bought out Otterbox's 'heavy duty' product lines, and still bears the Otterbox logo on the bottom. I had to replace most of the foam inserts last year. PM me if you want some. It was surprisingly hard to find the 'just right' foam inserts - there are 8 billion different kinds of foam available on the internet and anything marketed as 'for cigars' is marked up *exorbitantly*. I spent ~$15 on a box full of this stuff - way more than I needed - still a small fraction of the cost of anything "for cigars". I can carry 27 'corona-sized' cigars, and perlas/minutos can usually double up in a row. I keep a few 62% bovedas in it at all times, just so it's travel-ready at a moment's notice. The Little Boy: This will hold 5 double coronas easily. I bought this far more recently. Same story - 62% boveda pack lives in there full time. Le Kit Bag: This gets far more use than either of the cases. Front pocket holds my torch and usually a small pack of cigarillos (coshos, chicos, serie clubs). Middle pocket is for the guillotine and a pocket knife in case I need to perform surgery on a particularly sticky band. Back pocket holds my punch cutter and scraps (discarded cellies from cigarillos, discarded bands, etc). There is a zippered pocket on the way back that is home to my perfecdraw and two eyeglass-repair-sized screwdrivers (one flat/one phillips) - for purging the tank on my torch before a fuel refill, adjusting flow setting, etc. Mise en plas. Every tool is returned to its designated home after each use. I have tried using a 'bag of holding' that carries everything (cigars and equipment) and quickly realized that I don't like the idea. I find it best to have a vessel that is 100% devoted to cigars and another vessel that is 100% devoted to equipment. It works a lot better. 6
captain Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 I love the pics...I could look at loaded cases all day
