canadianbeaver Posted January 1, 2018 Posted January 1, 2018 Happy New Year my FOH! Do you ever recall me telling you about our friend in Chicago, Geoffrey Fenton, who does a show on radio on Sunday nights? Jazz Impressions our of Northwestern University is a music staple for us. Out of SoundCloud, 2 hour shows run all day in my office/art studio/cigar cave. Well dig this! https://m.soundcloud.com/jazzimpressions/smoke He has created a show with the music theme “Smoke”, and talks about his cigar smoking friends from Toronto! CB

Dave O))) Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 When I read the name Lee Hazelwood it rang a small bell from the past, thanks for this. Just listening to a couple he wrote and sang with Nancy S, some great songs from my younger days. Summer Wine' Legendary album, Nancy and Lee, but desperately under-rated. The classiest kind of schmaltz
Dave O))) Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 I would go so far as to say that this tune, "Some Velvet Morning" from Nancy and Lee is utterly unique in the pop music canon. The strings break me up every time, it was one of my late father's favourite songs. The shifting time signature is very rare in popular song, not to mention the languorous psychedelic country mood that switches with the lullaby of Nancy's part. Arrangement was by Billy Strange, one of the best in the biz back then. Most would recall Nancy Sinatra's version of "Bang Bang (You Shot Me Down)". That was Billy on guitar. Just brilliant.
Dave O))) Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Just found this lovely version with Billy on twelve-string. Had to share it.
TheLiquidGator Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 I was at this concert with my sister. It is a shame there is so little film of Duane. 3
