The Cuban cigar industry is like nothing else on earth, except perhaps Cuba itself. All a little bit chaotic, but usually gets there in the end.

My advice to friends thinking of visiting Cuba is absolutely, definitely to do it as soon as you can, but only if you can handle a bit of confusion and anarchy. If you like well-ordered holidays with strict itineraries and things happening as and when planned, forget it. You’ll hate the place.

If you are the sort of person who doesn’t mind a touch of turmoil, then you’ll love it. If you can settle back, enjoy a local cerveza (Cristal is very good, but note that this is the beer not the famous champagne), and let things sort themselves out, Cuba is for you.

Rarely ever let down by any trini's.   The line is screaming for a corona or corona gorda.   The coloniales are currently smoking the house down, and the Fundies even better.  but with the introduction of the shorts, cant help think the line would be better served by ejecting the reyes and coloniales, and making a killer corona/corona gorda.  I think if they did, it would be my favorite smoke.

Kidding aside, don't touch my Coloniales, brother. The Coloniales simply is a Corona, or more precisely sort of a Corona Extra at 44 ring gauge, siding perfect between the Corona and Corona Gorda in girth, just a bit shorter. So what would be the avail of axing them and instead coming up with a "Corona"? I can't quite follow the idea.

And as for the Reyes - don't you get HSA onto mischief! For a Minutos-fan like me, it most certainly has its own raison d'être. Among the very best HSA has to offer (for me)!

Be careful what you wish for... as you might end up with a Vigía 60, haha.

I love the coloniales too. And the 44 RG is fine by me. But it's that "little bit shorter" that you mentioned. With a coloniales I'm already grieving it's quick demise before I light it. If it were just a fraction longer, it would be perfect

I smoke slowly but nubbling annoys me. Hence that little extra would make a great difference. I find the format of QDO Corona is perfect for me. I just wish they could match it

Thank you for the article. Was planning on going there in a couple months to check it out and officially cross it off the wedding possibilities list. Didn't know there was so much swirling around this stick. Managed to get a couple and plan on having the 1st one sometime in the spring. They looked and smelled great. However, upon further inspection, one of them had a few soft spots where they felt underfilled...a shame but will get smoked nonetheless.

Great review!  I was given one as a gift and have been waiting for the right time to smoke it.  May be a nice way to kick off the new year.  And if enjoy it as much as Ken did, I'll have to somehow hunt down some more.

Another great article Ken. I have only had a few of mine but really did enjoy the ones I had. Also miss the Robusto Extra, should have bought more.

I was surprised to read that you liked these, @Ken Gargett.   I have several boxes and put one in a recent box pass.  Also brought a couple with me to LA, but they were still in my travel humi the next day.   So I fired one up on the drive back to Phoenix.   Yes...  they are that good.

One of the top cigars of 2018 for me. Smoked right through a fresh box. Highly recommend, and especially if you see them in Cuba, I would advise to buy all that you can carry.

Excellent article @Ken Gargett I enjoyed reading it and your handling of the first commenter's take on CC vs NC.  Nicely done.  I'm a big fan of La Trova ever since I tried one. It's the same size as the Cohiba 1966 and "rumors" are this was the original blend for the 1966 but the quantity of wrapper on hand wasn't sufficient.  A Cuban tall tale perhaps? We'll never truly know.   What I do know is that I've smoked about 5 so far and none have disappointed.

Haha, true, not much of a nubber here either. But actually, the Coloniales is never a quick smoke for me, as these are mostly fairly well packed and rolled (as is the Reyes for that matter). So, no complaints from my side.

But then, perhaps we may agree on the addition of a Long Corona (à la Sig III) to the range. But since it's Trini, also with a slightly enhanced rg, 44 x 155, which would actually be a new format. Likewise would be an amped Trini Corona Especial, i.e. the short version of the Fundi, "Laguito Especial No.2" (40 x 152). May they keep all their new, fad S&Fs.

But why not then go full throttle and bring back the original Coloniales as an addition (no cuts, Sir!) to the range, at 44 x 162. - Deal?!
