Final Check Before Making a Purchase

Recommended Posts

I finally managed to achieve full budget for my cigar tools plan after spending a year and decided to do final check before making a purchase. I am just changed my mind to buy bigger wineador (20 bottle) since it is the best deal I can find in my country at least. Unfortunately, despite of its capacity, it actually has smaller height than most of similar American wineadors like Newair. So, I think I would add total four Spanish Cedar Drawers of 3 drawers and 1 false front drawer at bottom (I could just go with all normal drawers... but it would make me difficult to place a USB fan for circulation so I rejected it).

Due to the drawer layout, I might put 2 SensorPush hygrometers (1 for top and other 1 for bottom) like previous 12 bottle wineador concept instead of 3 which is mostly common for large sized wineadors especially 28 bottle ones. Will it destroy my wineador plan (I actually considered put hygrometers to all drawers but I think it is too overkill imo)??? ?

Get a 28 bottle.

No cedar shelves or drawers— waste of $ and space. Just use the wine racks and cigar boxes. Boveda packs, 65%, you’ll need half a dozen.

Done.
Too bad that 28 bottle ones are unavailable in Korea unlike America... Only smaller ones are available which makes me sad...

Isn't Korea appliance central?? Scratching my head on this one

Too bad that wines and cigars are the exceptions in Korea for now... They are just not that popular yet (even Coleman coolers are pricier yet less range of products compared to US market) unlike PC, electronics, etc in my country...

You always have to look at the bright side of things.  At least you can get great yaki mandu over there.  I miss those terribly.

If you know any servicemen, maybe you can get one through the local PX or he/she can order it through AAFES?

The import tax (approx $500?? by Amazon's suggestion) is extremely high if I try to get 28 bottle from Amazon since there is no 28 bottle offering in Korea... Way more expensive than getting parts for high spec custom water cooling gaming PCs XD (even cost of these products are skyrocketing like CCs).

Btw, I forgot to say I am Korean citizen who is neither affiliated with ROK nor US army so I cannot use PX or AAFES ?... Oh,  your cleaning guide for removing plastic odour in wineador helped me a lot (coal briquettes)!!! I am also considering using Spanish cedar shelves instead of drawers since I am most likely to get box purchase not singles (I am sure most of folks using large storage containers for storing CC box hauls not just 5'ers 3'ers)..

Ah that blow, sorry buddy. I know the Chinese market has absolutely blow up in the last 10-15 years. I guess it hasn't reached over to ROK yet.

Exactly. Most of folks in Korea still think that only rich snobs can have cigars and wines (most of them do not even know FOH and CCW) and the domestic market size is way too small compared to China. This is the reason why I decided to contribute cigar documentation on Korean wiki so that folks can at least learn some cigar knowledge. This was such a helluva work when I started to edit Cigar documentation since it was extremely lacklustre with too many misinformation (even Cuban custom roll like Yolanda was not there during that time). I am really happy to see that others include b&m use my contribution as a reference on their post (they are still insisting using 70/70 rule for storing CC like NC unfortunately but it will take some time to spread 65/65 rule).

Note. It was even worse in the past since CCs were not legally imported until 90's... The anti smoking regulation in Korea is ridiculous and harsh as Aussie, Canada, USA as well (e.g. local b&ms are not allowed to sell cigars online, no smoking in TV programmes)...

I have (2) 28 bottle wineadors, and I have one setup with 2 drawers for singles, 1 shelf on the bottom. Filled with boxes. The other has no drawers and 2 shelves. They fill up quick. Lol the Aristocrat is essentially full as well. In the process. I'll need a second one, unless I stop buying.

XDDDD!!!!! So, which one would be better for me? go with drawers and shelf or just shelves only? I am also considering 2 shelves only optionu (box storage exclusive). Can you show the pictures too???

The less wood you have in there, the more space you have for boxes. Just depends on how many singles you'll be storing, and if you'll really need the shelves.

Thanks! Since I am planning to buy wineador, I think I would mainly buy boxes instead of singles since I have never saw a person who has cabinet or coolidor/wineador buy singles only...

Note. Drawers are more expensive than shelves... right?

Drawers tend to be significantly more expensive than shelves as they require some real labor for the manufacturer to cut and assemble.  I had a rather large newair and started with drawers and shelves.  As I continued to fill it, I had to remove the drawers to accommodate more boxes.  I could have just saved the money and gotten shelves.  You can also just stack boxes, so as you continue to fill, you may end up removing shelves for more space.  I ran out of space in my newair and got something bigger, but i recommend to everyone who gets a wineador they get some heartfelt beads or something similar to absorb excess moisture.

You should buy no more than one drawer, and one shelf.

I started with a 28-bottle and went with three shelves and theee drawers. Quickly learned the drawers take up precious space. I bought an identical 28-bottle from Craigslist just so I could use the shelves and drawers.

So now I have one with 2 drawers for singles and one shelf, and the other has 2 shelves. Also have two coolers, but the extra drawer sits unused.

Heres a pic of the two-shelf one from a few years ago. You get good at Tetris...

This is going to convince me to buy a 3rd matching wine cooler just to use the shelves and the extra drawer I have :rotfl:

Much appreciated! I finally decided to ditch drawers and go with shelves for box storage exclusive (I also found that box storage is much easier to place than singles) ?!!! Cannot wait to obtain 25/50 cabs and other boxes sooon!!!

By the way, how do you place custom rolls from Cuba trip? I saw many of us just place them on shelves as bundles in their cabinet.

I don't have a lot of customs, but I occasionally get a bundle.  I have enough space I just pop them on top of a stack of boxes, but in the past where empty space was scarce, I would toss bundles or loose sticks in an empty cab box for easier stacking.

Appreciated! I am definitely considering that as recycling old cabs for good use!!! ?

By the way, there are some large dual zone thermoelectric wineadors but dual zone seems to get less love than single zone. Is dual zone temp is less efficient than single zone temp???

No but it doesn't really make any sense. Just seems like wasted space if you could get a single zone and utilize one door. Dual zone is more for wine, when you have a need to store myriad of wines between reds and whites, they require a different temp.

Appreciated! I would definitely consider dual zone if future wife allows me to enjoy cigars but wants to have storage for both wines and cigars! Maybe, I even get Aristocrat like cigar cabinet in the end once for all...

Note. I found Aristocrat cabinet has thermoelectric cooling system like most of wineadors. Will I able to build Aristocrat like cigar cabinet if I add thermoelectric cooling system and Bob Staebell's set and forget system (I might able to ask wood crafter for making cigar cabinet but not able to get Aristocrat cabinet level quality that has humidity and temperature control ability with flexibility in Korea)? Just curious...

I don't have one, but Staebell by all accounts does a great job.  They sell their cooling / humidity systems separately if you want to put it in something custom (I have a friend who has a custom built in and Vigilant built his humidity system).  The standard Aristocrat cabinets have exteriors made of mahogany which is a very hard wood that relatively non-absorbent.  The interiors are Spanish cedar.  You could certainly have someone replicate that style, but poor construction will create problems, so be wary.

Thanks! My ultimate wish is having Aristocrat cabinets for large stock but wonder it can be shipped internationally. There was one folk who asked Bob Staebell about shipping but did not get reply (too much of shipping cost?)...
